Nanny State

GNs planning to traverse the Kimberley in WA should note that even more restrictions are about to apply to your ability to buy a little something for happy hour.
As of March 30, sales of cask wine, long-neck beer (750ml bottles) and large bottles of spirits will be banned north of the 20th parallel.
Oddly enough, slabs and cartons of beer can still be sold at take-away outlets and one-litre bottles of wine and spirits are also not prohibited. (Which makes it hard to imagine what they mean by "large bottles" of spirits.)
One small part of the community cannot handle booze, so EVERYONE gets penalised. Don't you just LOVE democracy?
Cheers, Tony

Had a quick look at my map .. The 20th parallel is just south of Tennant creek.
This will be great news for the publicans at Alice & Barrow Creek, does Wycliffe Well have a take away pub?

Camooweal & Mt Isa in Qld might do OK too.

Kununurra on the WA side is a long way back as well

Does this restriction apply to the good folk of Darwin?

I recall that when I was last up that way, in lots of places Thursday was a dry day for takeaways.

I suppose there's an opportunity here to develop & market water tanks modified for carrying wine.

Don't think it's all about the booze but the weapon factor larger bottles present . They did the same thing with the old 4 lt wine bottles with the finger ring, before the hand bag came into vogue .

Back in the 70's there were so many people clubbed to death with wine bottles or needed evac's to major medical facilities for head and neck injuries it became a full time flying job .

G'day Tony. Since the federal governments invasion (sorry intervention) of the Territory we have had to supply name, address and where we plan to drink it (with photo id required) before we are able to purchase more than $100 worth of alcohol.Fair total you think? A slab of beer and 1/2 dozen of average priced wines put you over the limit. The majority once again are held to ransom by those who cause the problems.
Cheers all
Jack
