computers 1 0 1

I have been having my twobobs worth, on computers re some questions asked.

I was wondering if others might like to join in and ask "her upstairs" to add a new top level entry for computer questions

At our age group, we are at that edge stage of computers, some know nothing, little or a lot, so may be able to help those and ourselves with what we know

Just a thought

Not a bad idea, Bob, would save cluttering up the general forum and would provide a "first choice" for those who are having problems.

Perhaps it should be "COMMUNICATIONS" rather than just computers and shove two-ways, TV etc in there as well

It could include GPS info too.
Some are easy, some are not, and there's the map updating processes etc.
I'll keep watching for it.

Yep a "technology" subforum would be a good idea.....

Being "guilty" of posting a recent thread regarding wireless laptops, we think a dedicated special new subforum could make sense. However
if we start having specialised forums for every different category or subject, the thread might not get the same "hits" or feedback as the General Forum which gets 10 times more visits than others.

The General Forum is just that, a place where we're free to discuss, debate, query or get feedback on any thread/issue that we seek opinions or help or might be of interest to fellow members.

If anyone needs to find a specific topic in "General" just click on "Search" and type in "UHF", "solar power", "laptops" , etc and all the relevant threads come up.

By the way Twobob, thanks for your help with our laptop problem, with your computer knowledge we reckon if there is to be a new "computer department", you should be the "Guru" of that section!!

Cheers - Brian & Sue

Thanks Brian & Sue, but a computer Guru I am not, just passed along some info I believed was correct.

I like what other have said, Sir Basil (as always) has hit it "Technology" in my opinion

I know I am interested in mobile Internet, more to find the best deal, as most who come here, seem to want to know about this topic

As with GPS, mobile phones, UHF, etc, we all want to know the best setup, and what to know when purchasing same. These do get listed in the General Forum, but as was said, must be searched for, and most just re ask the same question, if it has been buried further back

I put the question, and after reading the replies, now really think this would be a better area for this type of question, rather than the general, if they were separated within it ie Mobile Internet, and UHF etc, as separate sub topics

Its up to all, to have a say, and only if there is sufficent interest, should a new Top Level forum be asked for, else as has been said by Brian and Sue, it may be dilute the general forum

Well we have a general forum, solo's, pets, jokes etc a Technology forum would help keep things tidy, and it would not take more than a few keystrokes to create....

A forum with all the techo stuff on it would be great not just the computer and coms side of travel but electrics and those bloody fridges and aircons that never seem to work as you are told by the supplier. Circuit diagrams and instruction manuals that we all seem to misplace wouldn't go astray either

Not sure if anyone has noticed lately but the forum seems to be gaining momentum/lot more discussion happening on a range of topics.

I need help with technology and a dedicated spot would probably mean any queries being answered by tech savvy nomads

well Mike the momentum that you speak of has been a slow but steady thing, starting off as an "ask the expert" dribble filled forum to a dynamic and ever gaining knowledge base put forward by "freindly" and caring people in a freindly and caring manner, can only be put down to the people we now have on board, a far cry from earlier know all self serving posters
