In the middle of planning the next trip, a short little hop up to friends in the Atherton Tablelands, then across to Cooktown via the Lions Den, down the coast to Mackay then home Jiggedyjig, a quicky for about 6 weeks Has anyone paid a recent visit to the Black Mountain lately, havent been there for about 8 years now and the road from Cooktown was pretty rough at that time would welcome comments from any GN M&J
Sealed road to Cooky now, improvements on the Bloomfield track too, just to allow tourists a "sense of adventure"......

Thanks Basil, and yep it is a bit wet at the moment, expecting it on my doorstep soon as it moves SW appears very few wanderers know of the Black Mountain, maybe got spooked by the whispering at the base M&J
Black Mountain is an awsome place. I've been up to Cooktown twice in the past 3 months, and have stopped on the way up, and on the way back to wonder at the rocks and the contrast they create to the rest of the country up there. The black top road is really good, and there isn't much traffic after the peak tourist/barra fishing season quietens down. It's probably a bit wet at the moment though. It's fascinating country right through that region, and has a beauty all its own, as does most of the land of ours. Safe and happy travels. Cheers Granny

That pile of blackened granite is quite amazing. Awesome & spooky too.... aparently the colour comes from algea growing on the rock, underneath it is a grey colour....
