Good one John, looks really excellent , my book is way out of date and a new one costs $60, debatable if it is worth it, ideal site for when the bus is finished Thank you M&J

Yeah, I am using the Camps Australia Wide book, and downloaded the updates, and STILL got caught out with the Lake Lonsdale one!! Thanks John, I will check that site out before I next move on! Between the two I should get sorted! Tks, Dianne
Bubs did you place that information that you gained about lake lonsdale back in to the camps australia website, there is a section in there where you may input your thoughts and update a camping spot
the book relys on input from travellers, I have placed many in there myself and would love it if someone came in and deleted a site because of inapropriatenes
the book is there for travellers and it is the input from travellers that keep it such a rich source of info, please go back in and rectify that campspot

Thank you Dave for the info, Unfortunatly my book is no 1, actually its no 2 as the first was about the size of a postcard, with roughly 50 pages, so its not only me who is getting on in years, but all around me , Compared some pix of my earlier wandering in the 70s with the trip I just did, The deought and the tourists (population) are killing this country, (me), but I dont know what the answer is. All is dryer, barer, and browner, Thank goodness I am over 70, would'nt like to see it in the year 2030 M&J
ah!! sounds like it might be time to update!! I think the updates only go back to 3 ??? if you have a look on ebay a cheap one comes up every now and then, sold my 3 for $40 and it had the "snaps" book with it
$60 - $70 is very quickly recouped if one free camps, that represents maybe three nights in an average paid sheep paddock or less than one night in an upmarket cow pasture complete with tree's on the east coast!!!

Thanks John, that site will be helpful for us when we head east in April. It's just a shame W.A. isn't represented better considering there are plenty of free camping sites in the west, and well documented in a few publications.
Been a bit slack and haven't posted for a while, been too busy having a great time.
I tried to log into ozcamps today and kept getting an error message - does anyone know if the site has gone down????
I'm at Bodalla today, 57 kms south of Batemans Bay in the most beautiful rest-stop you could ever imagine (see photo). In the middle of a forest of what looks like mountain ash and only about 3 kms from the ocean (I took a walk down there this morning).
The sign on the rest area says "Overnight Camping Only (does that mean you can't just stop for half-an-hour to make a cuppa???). I guess it means that you can only stop for the one night, but I'm going to stretch the friendship and stay for 2 or 3 days. They seem to be having a bit of a heatwave down south, so I might slow down until it's passed.
Weather is glorious, hot enough during the day to get up a sweat, but cool enough to get a good night's sleep - and oh those stars at night! ! !
Today I've been on the track for 51 days and I am revelling in it. I was a little afraid that I would get bored, but there seems to be something or other around every corner to look at. The only thing is that the areas tend to be pretty much the same for large sections but they gradually change. I think I mentioned about the number of houses and resorts on the north coast of NSW - well, it isn't much different on the south coast - every little settlement seems to have a stack of brand new houses and motels/tourist parks. Hopefully, by the time I get south of Eden, they may start to thin out and things will get a bit "bushier".
Well, it's nearly 16:30 and that's getting pretty close to beer o'clock so all the best to all and I'll post again soon.
Mike I am logged into ozcamps, all seems ok, may have been a glitch, at the time you tried
I too, just returned from a trip to the northern NSW coast, and was amazed at the amount and quantity of people and sites. Changed a lot since I was there last (30yrs), but there were some nice quiet spots to free camp
One night stops are a bit of a laugh, no one checks, so they leave it to you to do the right thing. I believe all they are saying, do not make something that resembles a permenant camp. Its normally the local CP owner that complains to the council, and then they come out to check. I was always fishing (longer term)
Yep, must have just been a glitch, the site opened up fine this morning.
Thanks
Mike
Apparantly the Google Search Engine had a huge malfunction from late evening Jan 31st to mid arvo Feb 1st. They actually put it down to human error which made it a nice change from blaming the computer!
I had trouble getting on to some web sites at those times too.
