How to store all this valuable information.

There is so much fantastic, valuable information on this site, I want to be able to find it again in the easiest possible way.

I have just read the "interesting figures" thread and discussed with hubby.  As it will be some time before we can do the big trip, I love reading and collectiing hints, tips, info etc.

My question is, is there any way to bookmark a particular thread, or paste the thread into a seperate file so I can go back at any time?

I would also like to be able to save threads, discussing destinations and points of interest that I want to remember for when its my time.

Any suggestions would be helpful.  biggrin

Hi Kantiki, yes have to agree it is a wonderful site and full of information.  Ok to find a thread go to search and type in what you are looking for e.g. mobile phones and it will take you to this subject there you will find everyones comments.  Also what I have done is start a 'caravan file' and any information I find will be useful on our travels I print out and save it in my file.  This means we will be a full bottle on everything by the time we leave in early April!! Hope this helps smile

I have found that to find a thread again I type the name in my own messages ( user details  whiteboard) as the thread name is not always what the thread ends up being about. then i look at my messages to remember the name.
I also copy and paste to word and save info that way under my own file name.

Book marking would be a great asset.

well I tried to work out a way for you fellows to save all info to a folder on your desktop, after furiosly typing all instructions on the thread and making sure all was in readiness I found to my horror that the cut and paste method does not work between forum threads and desktop folders, I really fail to see why it wont work

however if you grab the free word processing program that can be found here http://www.openoffice.org/ then highlight the thread that you wish to save by right clicking and dragging the mouse until all text is highlighted and then left clicking over the highlighted text and selecting "copy"

open up your open office writer program and right click into that and select "paste" then you will have it in that program

if you go to your desktop and right click anywhere on it a box will open up, select "new" a new set of options will arise in there select "folder" right click on that and a new folder will appear on your desktop, you may click in the "blue" section of this new folder and rename it anything you like

once you have saved any info from the gonads to the word document you may then save it to the new folder on your desktop, thereby having easy access to all your little gems

I hope this helps a wee bit!!

To save stuff to my desktop I do 1 of 2 things ...
Using my Windows Internet Explorer (I think) toolbar ....

1.
- Use the L click mouse button to highlight the bit of text that I want to save.
- Choose "Page" from the toolbar.
- Select "copy"

- Open a Word or Open Office doc  & "paste" selected text.

- Save the doc as whatever & wherever U want.

or

2.
- With the required thread open, choose "Page" from the tool bar.
- select "save as"
- scroll thru to put the whole page into a folder of your choosing.

ahhhh!!! well there is a way to cut and paste directly from the web page, so this would then go to your notepad first and then transferred to your folder??

Or simply "file", "save as" and enter into folder you want or just in my documents, either whole page or selection

As they all say "copy & paste" to somewhere you can find it or print it out.
Just be very careful though. The laws on COPYRIGHT can bring you really undone if you try and circulate the material that you are not the AUTHOR of.......I'm in a specialist hobby forum and the 400 or so members contribute tips, hints, pics etc just like here but with a lot of technical detail and one guy is redeaming a "Dymocks" book voucher about June last year and finds on the shelf a book that includes articles copied and pasted directly from the web site with no credit given to the author at all. The guys who composed and had this book published are now in very deep legal ****e for breach of copyright....
