free bush camping in Tasmania

Hi all fellow travellers,
I plan to be in Tasmania in Feb and am wanting to spend some nights in my hired campervan at free camping sites or informal areas. I will be starting off around Port Arthur so am especially interested in any possible camping sites within an hours drive of this area. i would only be camping in the spot for one night (2 at the most) so it can be just a little clearing somewhere that camping is allowed. I havent been to tasmania since I was a teenager so cant remember if the area would be suitable to just turn off the highway and find a spot or not.
Interested in any information and will pass on knowledge gained once I return.

G'day zac and welcome to ya, around port arthur you will find a little spot just up from port arthur at nebeena, there are two here one is at stinky bay just out of nebeena and the other is at the rsl in nubeena itself

grab a copy of camps australia wide before you venture over there matey it will show you all of the free camps, its available at all good book stores for about $70

we will be in Tassie ourselves in early Feb.

We stayed at a little camp ground just otside Mole Creek, lovely little spot.
Wasn't free but close enough, donation into the tin nailed to the tree as you entered. That was a couple of years ago so might have changed since then.

GUTSY play bush camping in Tassie, I mean the leeches, the devils, not to mention the ever present threat of being attacked by a Thylacine..... Worse than bush camping on Frazer Is with the dingoes stealing everything.....

Zac, I just had a nose around and came up with a couple that I think you will find enlightening

http://www.discovertasmania.com/activities__and__attractions/outdoor_activities/camping

also this site, these are all free

http://www.forestrytas.com.au/visiting/camping

there are also a lot of motorhome friendly towns in tassie these are some

Burnie.................... Devonport....... Franklin
George Town........... Latrobe.......... Penguin
Port Huon............... Port Sorrell..... Railton
Sheffield................. Smithton .........Stanley
Ulverstone............... Wynyard

with these they actually encourage a motorhome or caravan to visit, most have showers, dumpoints and toilets, they may charge a small fee but compared to a caravan site it is bugger all

anyway hope this helps a little, if you need more just give me an email

Thanks so much for all the info. It will be well used.
Bush critters dont worry me. I have only ever been attacked by something in a city (London) and that was human!
