Do fleet owners get a hefty discount? How much I wonder? Truckies don't get much, I've seen signs "If you buy 500 litres you can get a $3 discount on a main meal...."
I am aware that in some places "locals" with an "account" at a servo in their area get a discount when they pay their bill monthly so it's pump price for tourists and a bit cheaper if you have an account....

Trucking companys get a discount because they are fleet owners, but if we are so many and united, and so put this to different oil companys and see if one wanted to get all our support through cheeper fuel.... something like that anyway.

publicize it on the tele ???

I think it may be up to state governments to participate with each other (scoff, scoff, chortle LOL!!!) and initiate a nationwide fuel rebate scheme for us gonads, similar to the one carried in queensland for residents only

if one was to maybe aproach our reps around election time I think we would have a chance of at least getting some of the tax knocked off for us older folk. now I'm not sure of all the taxes currently on fuel but given that gst is 10%, state is around the 35% and federal is around the 20%

if these were dropped (yeah right as if ) then fuel would be a minimum 65% cheaper thereby making an average litre of fuel, currently at $1.04 here in Pirie,$00.37 cents per litre

you will not get the oil companies to even listen to us, our only chance is governments, maybe independents like nick xzenephone

Hate to be a damp cloth here...
I seriously doubt we would be 'awarded' any such discount, be nice, but not likely to happen anytime soon.

I don't know so much about the 'huge' discounts, maybe if you have a 'huge' fleet, but the discount is two-fold and not just a discount off fuel, yep you get the discount on the fuel, a few cents of per litre etc, then the other end of it is claiming that on tax as a business expense.

A company I worked for had these fleet cards, and the discount they were getting was 5 cents off per litre. Not really worth the hassle.
100 litres @ 1.05, = $105, discounted rate $100.00

I'm not sure how the billing would go either for those permantly on the road, as most of the card lots want a permanant address to send the bill to.

For an oil company to offer any discount to G/Ns they would tell you that to administer a scheme would be more expensive than the discount would be worth.Dont wait for the Government to take on the oil companies, the companies could buy and sell the Country. The Politicians just do not have the Balls to seriously attack them.
I know that this has nothing to do with fuel prices but what do you think about the Government(s)giving people who donate blood to the various blood banks a reward.Nothing great but enough to encourage donors.Tax cut, discount on rates etc.Cheers Ibbo.wink

the dragon and I are regular blood donors as well as organ donors, I worry a bit when one sees the blood given willy nilly to druggys and people that I really would not like to keep alive, I think my hard worked for blood and organs should come with a restriction stating, "to the young and attractive and decent people only" but I guess given those restrictions if the need ever arose I would die!!!

but I cant see why the government could not drop a few of their taxes for us travellers, it will never happen with oil companies

You gave me a thought,  why not register a company name "Arse About Tours"  and  the  business activity as a tour director,  claim the fuel and accommodation  GST back as a working expense incurred   while travelling around  checking out potential sites for future exclusive tours.

Bugger ! now they will close that loop hole off for sure

O K , got a suggestion
we should all fill our Jerry cans and tanks, and then on a specified day or for a week we only fill from the jerry cans, we DO NOT GO TO A SERVICE STATION, if we are many, the profit should drop considerabley, at the same time let a reporter from a news channel know it is going to happen, so it is publicised
I nominate the first week in Febuary

And if you were to try and circumvent the extortionate fuel prices in Tassie by sneaking a few jerrycans into Tassie in your van should you be discovered you may end up like Marcus Clark, you can have long range tanks fitted though.........

Can I take jerry cans with fuel on the ship?

All jerry cans must be empty and dry of residual fuel before they can be carried on Spirit of Tasmania. There are strict regulations. Please call

1800 634 906 for further details.

Yet you can take full LPG cylinders....

Your Lpg bottles are collected from you when getting on the boat. It's bedlam at the other end as they don't tell you where to retrieve your gas bottles from and it is a different place to the quarantine check point.
if you look at can't remember if it is the back or front of the boat you will see a little truck with a cage on the back full of the lpg bottles out on a deck all by itself.

that is only if your gas bottle is not connected to your unit, if it is connected it must be "isolated" I.E. valve turned off, you are not allowed to take a non connected gas bottle on board, and I quote directly from our ticket

"if connected to a caravan, campervan or motorhome, the cylinders must be isolated prior to boarding and remain so during the voyage. under no circumstances may gas cylinders be active while on the vessel."

"they must not be out of date and no greater than 9 kilos."

"any cylinders not meeting these conditions will be confiscated and disposed of by tt lines"

I assume that your cylinder was not connected to anything Pam!

it was connected to a one burner that screwed on its top for boiling the billy. We didn't have the camper trailer then (3-4 years ago) we stayed in self contained accomm ranging from park cabins to b& b's. Next time, don't know when it will be, we will be taking the camper.

ah! thats why, if it was "inbuilt" and connected then it would have been fine.

they even state that if a fuel container cannot be brought to a "dry" level then said fuel container will be filled with water. very handy if one forgets to empty and refill.

I thought that checking the dates on the gas bottles was going beyond the call a bit but I guess it's a safety thing.
