Christmas away from "home".

Hi everyone.  Over the past 12 years I have been living and working away from my family. They're in SA and I was in the Kimberleys. I made it routine to go south every second year.
On the alternate years I would join fellow van park residents in an "Orphan's Christmas" where whoever came along brought the food they decided to contribute to the table, and whatever drinks they preferred on the occasion.
For some of the Christmases I was house sitting, and the owners encouraged me to entertain on the wide verandah overlooking the pool.  Another orphans' christmas.
This year I'm in Cairns. I've made a few friends and aquaintances in the 6 months I've been here.
What do other travellers do, solo or not, to celebrate the Season wherever they are at the time? I'd love to hear your ideas. Cheers Granny.  confuse

This is the first year for me that I will not have the company of either one of my own two sons, or my Grandson. However, I will be with my Sister and her family, but imagine next year I will have the pleasure of 'an Orphans Christmas'. It sounds wonderful!! I treat it as a time to appreciate and have gratitude for what I have.
Have a wonderful Christmas no matter where you are and with whom!
Cheers!

If my schedule holds, on Xmas day I will be travelling between Indiana Homestead (80 kms east of Hart's Range NT) and Linda Downs Homestead (130 km east of NT/Qld border)

I have got a really good bottle of Margaret River Red and will be toasting all of the GN's in Australia at about 7:00pm Qld time.

The toast will be an old Irish proverb to travellers which is probably appropriate for GN's

"May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand."

Hi Granny
Yes, Orphans Christmases are a big thing up here in darwin too.
Since I have been up here I have met up witha great bunch of 'gals' who are allof a similar vintage and all run their dogs on the doggy beach at Casuarina, well we all wanted to do a Christmas Brunch thing where we could take our best mates too, so we meet up for some play time and then share brunch on the cliff tops at the dog beach! It's great fun and then wander off to whatever other do's may be on.
However you are spending your's I do hope it's a lovely peaceful and joyful time.

Just had a thought ( yes folks that was what that funny noise was !) If you are doing Christmas on your own anywhere it would not be too late to put up a few notices for others, especially travellers/nomads to join you for a Nomad Orphans Christmas!

I think I shall do that around here for our Christmas bash and see what happens! Great to start something new.
