your help appreciated..

Hi All,
I am new to this forum and am really here because i am researching for a short student documentary on Solo travellers. I'd be really interested in your thoughts on the following if you don't mind:
1) what do you love about the "grey nomad" lifestyle?
2) how much time have you spent on the road? How long is each journey? Or are you on the road permanently - if so, why?
3) why do you enjoy travelling solo?
4) what are some of the drawbacks about travelling on your own?
5) what are some of the benefits of travelling on your own? Can you name an amazing experience?

I would love to hear your thoughts on any of the above questions, i am hoping to make this documentary next year and was thinking about attending one of the CMCA rallies that they organise. Are any of you CMCA members and if so, are you members of the Solo SIG? Are any of you attending any of their upcoming rallies?

Anyway, I hope i haven't frightened you off with so many questions, but do really look forward to hearing from you in the next day or so!

Many thanks,

Amber

Hi Amber,  you need to put your post in the General forum.

I don't see why Amber needs to put her post in the General Forum - her questions are specifically about Solo travellers.

Well you answer her  ... as no one else has ... and I don't have enough experience to be of any help

HI Nannymon and Extaff,
I think maybe i should have started smaller! Maybe one question at a time...
I think what i want to know is what you love about life on the road and what drives you (pun not really intended) on these trips. I get the feeling that it really is a lifestyle choice - more than say, packing your bag and heading to Thailand or Bali. I know that my own roadtrip experiences in Australia were completely different to what i thought they would be - and i found myself loving small towns that i had never heard of before we saw the name on a road sign or map.

But, maybe i am romanticising the experience?

Anyway, any thoughts you have on any of my questions would be most appreciated!

There is nothing special about travelling on your own, in fact it is an un welcomed state of affairs, that is just what one must do. I would suggest that, most "Solo's" do not travell on their own, but have a pet with them.

If something of interest catches my eye, ie an event, then I have no problems going. Worst part is I have to watch where I leave my wallet/hat/phone/keys without the backup, and I cannot have a seat reserved for me to return to, if I get something to eat or drink - best part, I can do whatever, when ever, and answer to no one, except my dog (usually a small huff and puff)
