For the ladies.

Just a thought ..... I was just wondering what other ladies do to fill in time of a night .......  I knit.

I do voluntary knitting for charity, for people with cancer, they find it hard to keep warm, perhaps you might like to do a few articles as well, a change from reading or watching telly.  One of the articles I knit is "tube" bed socks for men,  very easy, no decreasing or increasing.  They do take a while to knit though.

I knit both socks at the same time, saves me having one longer than the other lol, true, it does happen.

Use 8ply yarn, you will need at least 100 grams for one pair of socks.

Using number 4 1/2  needles or whatever you use for a nice firm rib.

Cast on 50 or 58 stitches and double rib 120 rows, or until your yarn runs out ....  that's it.

The second last row,  rib two together to decrease stitches, also the last row, keeping the rib correct.  Don't cast off.

Leave a nice long length of yarn for sewing up.

Using a darning needle, thread the yarn through the stitches on your needle and draw up the remaining stitches, pull tight and tie it off firmly, this forms the toe.  Sew up the seam and your finished.

These socks can be dropped off to any nursing home.  I never use dull colours, always nice and bright, if one pair of socks puts a smile on one persons face, all my efforts are worth it.

You will find that wool/yarn is on special at the moment been the end of winter, you can also pick up yarn/wool at Vinnies, the Sally's or any other Opportunity shop, very cheap.

Can't face so much knitting, try a beanie.   Lots of good quick patterns can be found here on the net.
