Dog Friendly places

Maybe we could make this topic a sticky...
We had a fantastic time at FIGLEA Cottage at Berry (NSW) last cuppla days. very dog friendly Gracie was allowed to sleep in the cottage we had (wood duck). Fully selfcontained, very quiet picturesque setting over 100 acres to roam at your liesure and 3 km out of Berry. Close to Kiama, Shoalhaven Heads, Nowra, Jervis Bay.
Google "Figlea Cottage" to find the website.
The owners were an exceptionally friendly couple.
Very highly recomended.

When I finally retired the kids found a book "Holidaying with Dogs" Which lays out about 2000 places around OZ and NZ that are happy to take pets . Haven't had the chance to try any but is a starting point .

The trouble with any form of hard copy publication is that things change between the time it takes to compile the info and get it to market so it's always advisable to ring ahead and check that the info is still valid .

I found that when taking the dog on Hol's I also look to see if there are boarding kennels available in the town or nearby so i can put the dog in for the day if I visit a NP or some other place where dogs are not permitted

A home without pets is not really a home it's a place only to sleep

Newbie to both vanning and travelling with the corgi. Have not ventured far yet, but stays so far have been great with both the wife and dog enjoying themselves.
Found a site you may find interesting, hopefuuly bercause on the 'net, it is relatively up to date.
http://www.holidayingwithdogs.com.au/
Saw the site only a couple of weeks ago, and have only viewed a couple of times, but appears to have some interesting discussions.

Next week I'm taking the new van (as yet to be discussed) to Zane Grey @ Bermaguie for a few days, supposedly dog friendly so I'll be able to report back...

Another excellent place I found that allows dogs in side is "Bygone Beautys" at Leura in the Blue Mountains.  I spent 2007 Christmas there and it was wonderful.  That was before I bought my van.  They have 8 self contained cottages to choose from.  They have a web site, several I think, put Bygone Beautys in Google, well worth a look.

A Mate was taken here for Fathers day weekend with his/her pooch Benson.
Gibbergunyah. He says it was though a touch more expensive than he would normally pay it was value for money, very pet friendly with a yard for the dog if you wanted to do some sightseeing without it.... Near Bemboka on the Snowy Mountains Hwy not to far from Bega....

I'm checking out the book today so I will get back to you with perhaps a brief "Book Review"..... Sometimes these life be in it things are exceptional other times they are full of hubris. Yep the problem with print media is that it is out of date before it reaches the book store....

Bought the "Holidaying with Dogs" No9 today. I'm happy with it, it tends to contain more listings of DF accomodation rather than CP's but I guess that's what is out there.
One place listed looks very good. North of Yarram in Vic it is claimed to be the first dog friendly resort in Australia with fenced camp & Van sites. Situated in rain forrest.....

Why, but Why, is this thread not more active. I WILL not go anywhere, if my mate cannot come.

I can understand there are differences, good animal owners and not so good. Whats the options, send them to a "holding yard" that cost $ and they dislike (and I hate/worry/ so do not use), leave them with friends, that can cost friendship, or just leave them.

I for one will "sneak" my mate into anywhere I stay. I ensure there is no evidence of him being there, but I prefer, to be open and up front. He is small, and reasonable quiet, and I ensure his ablutions are attended to - other than that, he is proberly better in hygene, than those that had the room before!

My mate is my mate - he is there when things are good, and no so good - wagging the tail, and only required a pat, to make us both feel better.

Lets get the message out there, that animals are a good thing, and Grey Nomads, are the group to do it. Have no problems with rules and restrictions, but make them available for us to choose where we stay.

We are the head of the food chain, and therefore TOTALLY responsible for the whole chain - thus have not more rights to exist, than the smallest of our responsibilities.

Hey I totally agree.... Was talking to a woman running a DFCP on Sunday and she says she would prefer pets to children. Pets don't Graffiti walls, don't vandalise and enjoy themselves. FPA seem to have a grasp on the "pets policy" and are encouraging their parks to be pet friendly. Some other CP Chains who offer platitudes about being "family friendly" seem to think that pets are not part of our families. I'd say though that the power of the almighty $ will eventually change things as more operators realise they are missing out because they are not pet friendly.
Sadly I did notice that some pet owners are not responsible types who allow their dogs to roam freely, poop on other peoples sites etc and this would cause some cynical observations. I kept Gracie under control and cleaned up her "Dog Sauce" (check it out on www.engrish.com) and kept her on my site, sadly others didn't bother...

fully agree with what is being said here by competent dog owners, but the sad truth of it is that for every one of you fellows there are two of the bad owners, a small dog under good control will be welcome by most park owners, the trouble comes when that trust is abused, when I ran a park just outside of Pirie I had this lovely old gentleman with a corgi he assured me that he was well behaved and wouldnt annoy anyone and would be under complete control, despite the "no dog policy" I let them stay, the next day the dog bit a visitor, the law suit that followed was, to the park, devastating because of duty of care rulings, court ruled in the visitors favour, awarded $10,000 pain and suffering, upon eviction of the owner of the dog and inspection of his unit we found that the damn thing had chewed all three mattresses, urinated and pooped all over the carpets and chewed 2 doors and skirting, total repair bill $3,500, cost of a 2 night stay to the park was $15,000 (findings, repairs plus court cost) that is why any park is wary, like you I love to take my little mates everywhere I go but the reality is I cant, but I can understand why and sympathise with the owners of the park, but the good ones should not be punished, the trouble is the "good owner" detector is a bit faulty, I praise the parks that welcome dogs but also uphold the thoughts of the ones that dont

That I guess is the crux of the matter, how do you tell a good dog from a bad owner? I understand completely the "dogs outside only" policy too, many people simply don't want to sleep in accomodation that has been "used" by dogs, cats, reptiles, casual cassowaries etc...
I think the dogs/cats on leash and under control at all times is a good policy...
I have noticed myself that many people seem intimidated by Gracie just by her size although personally I find smaller dogs are far more courageous.

Zane Grey CP @ Bermagui was OK. I would have liked a little more supervision, some pet owners just seemed to let their pets run wild, I exchanged words with the owners of 2 shelties who did not see the need to keep their dogs on leash simply because it was fun to watch them tease Gracie at the end of her lead, poop on my site so that I felt I had to clean up their "dog sauce"...
A good park overall though with off leash areas adjacent to the park.

A friend and I took our dogs to "best friends retreat" near Yarram in Gippsland.
http://www.bestfriend.net.au/
It's fabulous there with areas fenced off for dogs to socialise in and play and do all those doggy things, chase balls and an agility course. Like Deefer has some learning to do before we do "Agility" but it is very friendly and welcoming place.
We camped in one of the fenced off powered sites.

This place is on my "to do" list, not far from the Walhalla Goldfields Railway which I'm told is also "Dog Friendly"......

Just back from 10 days at Forster on the NSW Mid North Coast. Stayed at Lani's Holiday Island Resort. Found it excellent for both relaxation and the corgi.
Great place to exercise the dog alongside the water on a large grassed area. The staff at the caravan park were very obliging and even go tom thye trouble of guiding you into the site.
There are also some dog friendly beaches in the area as well.

Just spent over 2 weeks at Tathra Beach Tourist Park, beachfront ( beach is off leash).
Great spot, cafe's supermart etc across the road will return as my van is still there. Gracie had hours of fun excavating rabbit burrows and chasing foxes in the dunes as well as learning to "surf"....

Hi everyone, I am a newbie here who loves to get away camping with our trusty mate Bluey (border collie). One of the nicest places we have found that is extremely family and dog friendly, is Neurum Creek Bush Resort. Check it out at www.ncbr.com.au

At the moment am in the c/p at Marong, a lot of the permanent residents have their pets with them and often walk by the bus I am preparing for the road home to Qld, I think thats why I am a lot behind the time table I have set myself to get things done, great dogs and all friendly awaiting a conversation with me or Judy, great spot for the dog owner,
still missing my Pixie, foxy cross, who died from a bait in 2005, now with the independance of the bus might get another

mike dont ever put off getting another little four legged mate, pixie is gone and I feel for you but please dont go without the companionship the little furry buggers can bring, my little mates are here alongside me right now, fuggles up on my lap and god help anyone who tried to get between me and them, never lone harm them

we have a little foxy cross male (wimpy) and one that I really dont know what the hell she is, one of those ****zu cross maltese things, but she knows she's adorable (fuggles) started out as fugly, you all know what that stands for but she is just so loving that I changed it to "fuggles" she "chose" me as she was being abused by some low life mongrel, wont leave my side now, both only small dogs as that is what we prefer, our choice, others have larger dogs and they are fantastic as well

the companionship these little fellers give is unfathonable and should not be disregarded, they cure ill's and give some people a reason just to get out of bed, and as for company they are second to none, always happy to see you and all they require is a pat now and then, go grab another one mike please, you wont regret it, put him/her in bed with you, keep him/her by your side and he/she will reward you with a life of happiness and pleasure

hi all my name is denny, just joined your site. we have just spent a week in Eden, stayed at top tourist park "Garden of Eden' with our special mate Macca [kelpie] they send you to a pet area, but it's better than the no pet section, even has a great dog washing enclosed area. Macca only 11 mths old and has travelled 11000 k's already, he is used to the chain, and loves the car [patrol] likes to sleep up the back on the waeco frig. we have the camping with dogs book as well as using the racv accomodation guide. Never had a problem in our travels so far with Macca.
