Folding table, looking for idea's.
(Preview)
I'm looking to make a small folding table for use between two camp chairs, i.e. to hold a couple of drinks and a few nibbles. Small and light are the operative words, ideally about 350mm high, table top approx 400 x 300mm. The legs need to fold and when folded the unit need to be as flat as possible. Any thou...

Beating Central Australia's freezing nights during winter.
(Preview)
We spend a lot of time in Central Australia April to July. The days there are usually 21-25 oC which are fantastic but the nights can get down below zero. Our van is modern and well insulated with double glazed windows which work great against the cold. The marine ply floor however can turn into a froz...

Fire bucket for camping up on the river during the cooler months.
(Preview)
I knocked this up out of a old 44 gallon drum & bits of scrap metal I had out the back of the shed. Total cost spent on it was about $4 for bolts & nuts. The BBQ plate & rotisserie I already had in the shed. Will have to put it in storage now until summer is finished. Cheers - John -- Edited by Happy Ca...

Sheba has reported in one of the sub forums (I digress, I think) that her WHEELS and TYRES have been taken off and replaced by someone - with inferior ones to what she had on!! A tip - get an engraver and engrave your licence number on EVERYTHING - portable fridge, generator, tool boxes, wheels (we had li...

Camping Fridge slide for my Waeco copy.
(Preview)
My new fridge will be living in the back of the Territory and due to the lid design, it is not possible to raise the lid high enough to remove the basket for loading/unloading. I had a look around for a fridge slide but they ask from $300 and up so that was not on for me. The actual slides alone cost upwards of $...

.. I recently viewed the result of a small caravan that had exploded .. No-one was injured fortunately .. The apparent cause was the result of 3 mortein 'roach "bombs" that had been set off to fumigate the van during the day in their absence .. They had however, neglected to switch off any &q...

I have recently discovered this awesome product called Vuplex. It may be old news to many but if you haven't heard of it, it is a wonder product for returning the new look back to those plastic windows on the van. Rather than me try and explain, visit their website http://vuplex.com.au. You can buy a sm...

Footprint. Do I need one?
(Preview)
I didn't know what a footprint was until I did some searching for ground sheets. I decided to buy a Black Wolf Tuff Dome tent that has a base of around 2.4m square. Should I bother with a footprint and if so go with a pre-made one (generally expensive) or make my own from cheapish material? Has anyone had an...

boosting solar panels

If you have free standing solar panels, and some days you just cant seem to get enough light to make them work efficiently. I have found that if you stand them on a silver reflective windscreen protector it will deflect light up into the panels and make them work better even on cloudy days. I hope this hel...

Cleaning burnt saucepans

Burnt the beetroot I was cooking tonight (caught it just in time - perhaps -so beetroot were still OK). I filled the saucepan with boiling water (not cold as it was still very hot) - added some bicarb soda and when it started to bubble added some vinegar. (Be careful it doesn't go over the top). Boiled it f...

Steel step non-slip
(Preview)
Was just down at SuperCheap and bought a adhesive backed non-slip ribbed rubber pad for the step on our Avan - never seen these before and for under $5 it should help avoid a slip or two on the steel surface. They seem to be fairly decent quality and I'll clean the step first with petrol.

I've been wondering what I could use to secure my rolled up hose during transit so it doesn't unravel. So today while I was shopping at Woolies, guess what I spotted? The ideal solution! A dog collar!
