A Scotsman an Englishman and Paddy the Irishman were captured by the French at the time of the French revolution and were condemned to death by guillotine the following morning.
The next morning the Scotsman was brought out first and was asked if he wanted to wear a blindfold and he replied "I will face my maker with my eyes open and facing the blade". The executioner pulled the cord on the guillotine and nothing happened. It was then deemed an act of God and he was set free.

Then Paddy was brought out and was asked if he wanted to wear a blindfold and he replied "I will face my maker with my eyes open and....... Ehh wait a minute I can see whats wrong with this thing".
