HI Guys

We are new to the forum, My name is Steve, and my wife is Ros.

we are looking to do some touring next year, and looking at buying a Van.. we are new to it all so help would be appreciated.

Have a few likes Tandem, Sep Toilet, Sep shower, Club kitchen, East West bed, Price range $20,000 to $35,000.

we lived in a 30 ft van with out teen daughter for two years while our house was being built, this is the only experience we have with Caravans, so pretty green.

Hope to get some sound advice from you guys

Check out Caravan Council of Australia www.caravancouncil.com.au/compliance
Ensure any caravan you choose that the van can meet requirements of Compliance Check list from CCA.
There are many Caravans listed on the beware list of www.facebook.com/groups/lemoncaravansinaus/.

G'day Salt and welcome to the forum.  Don't forget to try the two ongoing games here - 'Who is This' in the 'I Digress' section and 'Pick this Place' in the 'General' Section - a great source to find new places to visit. Sometimes better to buy second hand - hopefully all the faults have been fixed biggrin, though looking at your budget that's where you are looking anyway.

Welcome to the forum, Salt

Not many people come to this part of the forum, you may get a better response if you copy and paste your question, in the General Forum

You are already half way there, as you have a list of things you wish to have in your future van

Generally speaking, if you intend to use caravan parks all the time, then any type of caravan will do

If you intend to do some/all, free, donation, or low cost sites then the following (extras), are handy pieces of kit to have

  • Shade/awning, as without an air conditioner working, travellers like to sit outside under their shade
  • A means of storing your shower/sink grey water, as some free, donation, or low cost sites, are for self-contained travellers only
  • Leisure battery, and some solar to charge it, plus change normal interior lights to LED type
  • If you intend to travel where it is hot, then a fridge that is Climate "T" rated

Hope that this info is useful to you, and that someone can give you the make and model of caravan, which ticks most of your boxes

A very big welcome from us too we hope you enjoy your time with us and the best way to buy a van is to spend time researching what you need and writing up a list of non negotiable requirements and things you would like but could do without.

Hi All,

Well, I've taken the plunge and bought my first motorhome. Can't wait to start the next adventure with my two dogs. Thanks for all the useful tips and advice here-read it all before I decided what sort of rig would suit me, and bought the Guide to Free Campsites 2018 so I can plan ahead. So much to learn before I even start the engine!
