At Mudgee at the moment passing through on the way to Bourke, onto lightning ridge, assume is very little in the way of drinking water and fuel?

Ask to get fresh water at servos when re-fuelling most town water OK. Always best to carry a little extra diesel and water in tug as a just in case - but there are plenty of servo's at most of the towns.

Our motto is "Always refill whenever we get a chance just in case".

Hi John, I am at Emu Park in QLD at this time heading North.

Putting my 2 cents worth in here as I have been to Bourke recently after coming off the Strzelecki Track in from Birdsville. (opposite direction to your trip) However as Colin suggests get fuel where ever you can and my motto is to "not go past half a tank where possible!"  As I was on dirt most of the way and fuel was as scarce as "hens teeth" I purchased two (2) plastic 10 litre Fuel jerry containers and travelled with them topped up at all times.  biggrin biggrin biggrin Please go to the Bourke Bowls Club for an evening meal and have a Chinese Banquet ..**** 5 Stars

However, where you're heading there are plenty of fuel stops along the way.  My only other hint is fresh water....buy a packet of 24 bottled water from 'Woolies' or ALDI @ $5.99 it come in real handy for a beautiful cuppa......sweet!!!  Safe travels from Gwynnie   floating.gif

MatildaT, Have you tried the Sichuan cuisine/Szechwan cuisine at the club in Bourke - Great taste but a real "Fire Starter" twice.

Howdy Colin, I am happy for you to call me Gwynnie as all my friends do....  Not a big fan of aliases as my confusion (ADA) level and temperature rises up about 10 decibels  when this happens...But no haven't tried that cuisine- but sure sound HOT!!  biggrin  Take care.....  Gwynnie  floating.gif

Thanks for the replies, got some water from coles at Mudgee, don't drink the stuff got for brushing my teeth lol, got the beer and soft drink for drinking, have 1 x 10 litre container , 1 x 20 litre for water then keep my empty3 litre milk bottles for filling to, after Bourke heading through to Glenn Innes, Inverell, Lismore through to Grafton, Ballina then probably back into QLD, still have lots to see thinking of heading to Cape York, been told sealed rd all the way.
hope to get lots of wildlife pics along the way

Please do not assume. it only makes an ass out of you and me! there is plenty of fuel and water between Mudgee and Bourke. From Bourke back to the coast the way you have listed there will not be anymore than 200kms without fuel and water.It is pretty much the same all over this great land of ours.In some more remote areas you may have to travell 250-330 kms between fuel outlets. Enjoy you trip as that is a great part of NSW.

John, I believe we are all aware of the propensity of fuel and water if we go in a direct route to a destination - The fly in the ointment is that being "Nomads" we have a tendency to, side-track to an old mine, or a Mission station, maybe wander down the Darling in low-range 4WD because of muddy conditions - fuel and water can soon become precious - That's why we carry extra of both in portable containers. 

I have on several occasions, given, lent and sold to locals and tourists that have run out - We often give fruit/water to children in stranded cars of indigenous Australians (we never ever give Petrol, even though we actually have a 5 litre container in the generator box.)

It's a bit like the old Scout Motto "Be Prepared".
