Newbies in Eucla

We didn't really consider our odyssey to the east had started until we left Norseman. This was not the first time I had been to Eucla. In 1956 when I was 7 years old, I travelled with my parents across the Nullarbor in an FJ Holden. Very different journey in those days! The Eucla stopover was down on the flats, the old homestead building I believe. I remember viewing the old telegraph station ruins and old jetty.. which we missed checking out this time. Nowadays the traveller climbs up off the coastal flat and over the scarp to the later settlement. The caravan park is not bad, although its single washing machine was out of action when we rocked in. Hand wash, and a couple days rest to dry it.

After Eucla, the old road travelled much further inland than it does today.

Yep, ya on ya way alright.
Nice pics too. Plenty of nothingness in that first pic and spectacular colour in the second last pic.

Well done.

Can I suggest you pop you next entry in the 'Members Blogs' section of the forum. Easy to find them later down the track.

Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

Great photos JocknNic, Travel safe and keep reporting. As Doug suggests, use the members blog section of this forum to keep all our blogs together. This general thread disappears to quickly. Your's will be gone in a day or so....

Yep, I saw her biggrin Keeping the place to myself. It was a dark, dark night and the rum was fine........................aww

Thanks for the kind words folks. But we've actually completed the run so this is a reprise tale. We had such a ball that I want to encourage other new starters to go. Seems the blog page is the right place for this lot. I don't have my own blog - don't really want to get that involved. So I guess I'll do what you do Dougwe and just add into that GN section. See ya there..

Update: Having trouble managing my pics in the 'Blog' section. I'm also not able to follow the instructions enough to solve the issues. I do like the way the pics are handled in General Forum so I might continue here for the time being unless anyone can guide me thru the 'blog'..

JocknNik the blog section is no different to what you are doing here in the general forum. it is just another "drawer" to file things. Give it a try. The main reason is for having the blog section is to lump (file) them all together. You are posting in the general section, where many things go missing  "off the page" pretty quickly.

We asked Cindy, our administrator to set up the forum thread for exactly that purpose. She agreed, and now it is up to us to use it.

I can't understand why you feel your photos will be handled any differently. Have you had a look at a variety of the threads listed suggested link? If I can give you a few examples:

One from Dougwe: http://thegreynomads.activeboard.com/t63505094/april-2017-update/ who just types his story straight into the white typing zone and adds his photos - like you have been doing.

RockyLizard creates a PDF and attaches it to the entry: http://thegreynomads.activeboard.com/t63515360/so-wots-rocky-dun/

I do the same: http://thegreynomads.activeboard.com/t63539493/eating-our-way-around-australia-april-17/

While others just give you a link to their on-line blog - like Dave08 http://thegreynomads.activeboard.com/t63505433/our-blog/

As another example, would you post a question about, say CPAP machines in the general section, or under health? Or ask or look for road information under the general section, or under "road conditions"?

Perhaps, you have not seen the whole picture, as in the layout of the filing cabinet.  Try this: http://thegreynomads.activeboard.com/ This is the front page, with the list of all the different sections, just click on each one to see where it leads.

It is not really guidance through the blog you need, but guidance navigating through this site, and I hope that by giving the above, this may help. Forget the word "blog" if you want, as that does have connotations of on-line blogging, think of it more of just telling us and sharing what you are up to.

I hope this has helped you, if not, PM me with your phone number, and I will attempt to talk you through it.

Thanks kindly John. But I'm afraid I'm not very computer literate. I'm always surprised at how those who are, just don't seem to be able to grasp how roughies like me just flounder our way thru cyberland. I'm not a great enthusiast of the cyber world and never will be. But I've been bashing computers for years, doing just a few things: working with 'Word' which I understand reasonably well, surfing for info on Wiki and specialist sites, and the stuff I'm doing here... when it's simple posting like this with pics. Oh, and emails. Once it goes beyond that I usually need help. For instance I have no idea how some posters on 'Blog' control the size of their pics.

My son's a gun at this stuff but usually not available. I'm a lost soul. I will explore 'activeboard' and try to make sense of it. If I fail I might get back to you and yell for help.. and much appreciated. I usually succeed if all else fails by being talked thru this stuff.

Update... Hey, I think I'm getting the hang of it! Have uploaded a successful post on the 'Blogs' page. Thanks for the offer John. That's how I usually nut things out on the web. Fiddle until I get the result smile Real scientific like.. hmm

Happy that I could help. I do understand that not everyone is a computer wiz, you are either good at it, or not so good. Mr D (John) falls into the latter, he has his "email and google machine" but beyond that and facebook, fails to understand the ins and outs. I on the other hand, worked in administration environment since day dot, pre computer days to 2011 when we retired, so have a decent grasp on most.

If something fails, I just keep looking to find out why. Like you, I just keep working at something until I work it out.

Hi JnN, you say you use 'word' quite well. That's about my standard as well so do my update in a word document as the month progresses, then cut and paste it into the forum or emails to friends and family not on GN's. Pics are done separately after reducing file size. Works well but punctuation does a detour on the forum for some reason. As for spelling, well I'm real good at that disbeliefnodisbeliefno

Ah Lorraine, 'tis the lady of the team trying to save me! My thanks to you. It does seem to be the ladies who grasp the 'black art' better in our age group. Well, except Nik, who has avoided getting too involved with the little screen to date. Probably a good thing because A: We'd be fighting for the one and only 'sputer in this house. And B) She'd probably make me look a dunce if she got serious about cyberspace.

Doug yes, I find some computer stuff a challenge. My spelling's not too bad - done a bit of freelance journalism in the past. But computers are definitely not my strong point.
