Dometic toilet to a Thetford toilet

We have a Dometic toilet in our van and have had nothing but problems with it.  Now the switch at the top has broken and costs $204 to replace.  With all the other problems we have had decided to change to a Thetford C200 CW toilet.  We like the idea of having it owns water supply rather than using your good drinking water. Has anyone had problems installing a new toilet in their van?  We would appreciate any help thanks

Welcome to the gang robjoe, enjoy here and out in the playground.

I recently had a problem with my Thetford canister but it was really my fault I think cos I was a little heavy handed forsing the slide open. A little research and a couple of hours late, all good. I have one that uses the vans water tank water though, no problem as I sort of don't flush it anyway. All works well for me. OH! No smells either.

Rather than asking USERS here.
Go on Google and You Tube.
Get maint tips and actual video's of someone installing
emoving\changing
with all details and tips.

I do that for everything
Recently my Laptop keyboard went to god.

Comp tech's wanted $280 for the job.
I got new Genuine board from NSW for $32 del in 4 days.

5 min's out and 2 mins back with new one.
Following instructions on You Tube.
Brilliant.
Same with changing up an LED for one of my Torches.

Next size up. 200% more light and cooler.
Cost. $7.40 del from China.((23 del from Sydney. Same one)
3 1\2 weeks wait.
and 10 mins with instruction from Y.Tube to install

Oh. when buying new LD lamps or torches.
Make sure they XM-L2 L6. NOT XM=L L6
Much more power and waaaay cooler running
Usually around same price.

Al the XM-L's are just being sold of as L2's in a lot of cases,
to dump them.
Get to see what they look like and check.

I'm in process of exchanging 3 so far. sold as L2 but not.

They just appologise and swap mainly.
one changed 2 for me. and said bin the others.

So i gave to kids.
Nice torches. L2's better.

PLUS. Do NOT buy Chinese battery's. Rubbish Proven multiple times.

Panasonic and derivatives (Japan) only

They'll cost you, for 3400's 18650's. around $23ish a pr. unprotected.

and $28\32 a pr Protected.

Unprotected fine for singles. ONLY Protected for multiple in a torch.

With a good charger to protect them.

I use XTAR VC4 $47 del from Ebay.

$70 to 110 Aust sold.  Same unit.

Macca, Computer techs are only trying to earn a living why not support them and keep them in work? Why are you supporting Chinese. Surely there must be deserving Australians who need a job?

Various things, just seem to change his suppliers regularly. Haven't you learnt to ignore his posts yet? He seems to post very little on topic.

We had a troublesome Dometic toilet too, it drove us nuts for 4 years including one replacement under warranty ! still leaked so finally ripped it out and fitted a Thetford ceramic bowl model, like chalk and cheese in comparison.

Even the plastic lid on the thetford was better, only issue I had was I had to fit the thetford hatch longways instead of vertical like the dometic was.

Had to think outside the square a little and make an infill panel to disguise the gap left by the old hatch, sorted with a piece of aluminium angle which I had powder coated to match the van side, then glued in place with Sikkaflex 252.

A bit of a fiddly job but well worth the effort. Would never have a Dometic "anything" in a van again.

Thanks Dougwe and Banjo for your advise. Interesting reading about the different shape hatch needed. As we also want a tank will need to fit a filler for that. Thanks

Gotta smile at Macka's latest missive, he mentions keyboards, LED's, torches and batteries, not a sign of the subject matter "Dometic toilet to a Thetford toilet" I sometimes wonder if he hearing the same music as the rest of us?

Thanks everyone - sorry being out of range - now have a Thetford installed with only a small alteration to a pipe. Works perfectly.
