Elachbutting Rock (Wheatbelt)

Last Easter (2016) we decided pretty last minute to go away camping and went inland to the WA Wheatbelt to Elachbutting Rock. There are fire pits, drop toilets, shade and heaps of room with easy access for all types of rigs. The rock itself is spectacular - with a Wave Rock type formation and also a tunnel - Monty's Pass - which is formed by a huge slice of the rock having sheared off at some point in the distant eons. As it rained heavily through Good Friday night there was about 30 cms of water in the tunnel so we waited until the day after to walk through it when the water had dissipated. The rock itself can be climbed - you can even drive up on top with a 4WD. The top has many Gnamma holes - which were used by Aboriginal people for drinking water.

Elachbutting Rock was an amazing sight with waterfalls running off it after the rain. Well worth a visit!

(Sorry one photo is sideways and I don't know how to fix it!)

Thanks Aussie Paul - the 'wave' of Elachbutting Rock looks much more spectacular the right way up!
