New nomad - TV Aerial

Hi there, travelling with caravan TV for the first time and need to set up a suitable aerial. Does anyone have any suggestions out there, apart from leaving it home? cheers hmm

Welcome to the gang Kellgal, enjoy here and out in the playground.

I have a 'Jack' Aerial fixed on top of the van. Low profile and just rotates to point at signal. Like all Aerials it sometimes doesn't want to play if signal is week or blocked by something.

Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

Hello Kellgal

As Dougwe has already said, welcome to the Forum

There are two types of TV signal polarisation, one is called horizontal, and the other is vertical
Some aerials are horizontal, some are vertical, and some are both, so it depends on where you wish to travel

If you type aerial or TV antenna in the search box above there are some pointers on what others use

Hopefully others will come along, and will tell you what brand of aerial they use

I had a wanderer on a pole in my caravan, and it was OK in most built up areas
I have a winegard on my motorhome and once again, it is OK in most built up areas

They were both more or less hopeless out of the towns, or in an area which did not have horizontal polarisation signals

If you are travelling out of the built up areas, then the only guaranteed signal is from a reputable Satellite Dish

Hope this info was helpful and I also hope that you have many happy trips ahead of you

Gday Kellgal and welcome to the forum, with regard to the aerial I use a built in Winguard which can be fitted aftermarket and you can get a combo vertical/horizontal anyway we hope you enjoy the big playground.

Thanks to all you have been very helpful, there still seems to be a few areas to research and I'm sure we will get there!
Not that this is the most important issue when travelling but will fill in some days when not possible to get out to explore our wonderful country.
Hooroo.
