And the rain came.

Well what an eventful time at Greens. no

The rain came and came and continued coming. As we watched the ground turn to slush, I thought about packing up and heading out yesterday and then decided nahhh it will be good, will go in the morning. BIG MISTAKE ON MY BEHALF. 

The rain was not too bad yesterday afternoon and last evening, so a hot shower, jammies and into bed to watch tele for the night. All good until about 10, heard a bus and thought nooo at this time, and then I seen lights, I was really intrigued by now and decided that I would have a look out the window. All I could see was this big white thing heading towards Miss Daisy, I held my breath, and then silence. No bang, or crash.....phewww, there were a few choice thoughts go through my head at the time. It turned out to be Mr B2 coming in a little late and got caught with the slushy ground. So back to bed and then around 4 the rain just pelted down, it woke me up and I get up to have a look at the amount of water around. Ohhhhh BOY,,,,,, I was over my ankles as I stepped off the step, and so set about bringing everything inside and wiping it off. No more sleep for me. 

At daybreak I seen the pickle we were in. I went for a walk to make sure that everyone else was OK, and it seemed I was in the worse spot there was.  B2 was beside me and there was no way out, he was bogged and I was deep in water. Decided that the best bet would be to call the SES, for assistance in towing us out. They do not do that so suggested a local towie. Brian and I had a conflab about the dilemma and he thought if he could get out, he would be able to pull me out, I have to admit Brian, I was sceptical. 

Poor Brian tried and tried to move his vehicle without any suggest, really only digging a bigger hole. So I rang the Corop Store to see if they knew of a farmer who might have a tractor to help us out. Those great guys from the store came up and did it themselves. A truck to start with to pull Brian out and then back for a tractor to pull me out, and another caravan that could not get traction to get out. So it was all good and then it was a matter of making up my mind to move on or stay put. I decided to move on, as I have to be in Echuca on Saturday anyway. Brian has moved to more solid higher ground and I am now ensconced at the Rochester CP for a couple of nights.

So was a little  bit scary and exciting for me at the Greens. I really did not like being surrounded by all the water and watching the lake shore coming closer to me.Still love the place though and what an exciting tale to tell. 

Hope all are still OK at Greens and I am sure we will catch up again before too long.

Wow, that was unexpected !   Are there any decent spots on high ground further away from the lake ?

There are Vic, although today even those were a quagmire. A few spots on the gravel that have a more solid footing. It was my own fault, as I parked where my gut instinct was telling me not to. All good experience and I actually drove being towed for the first time ever, so another first.

Thanks shekon, I think a few are planning on being there for April, do you think it would have dried out a bit by then or it will be the same once the winter rains have set in? hmm

If so, what would be your recommendation for an alternative area? blankstare

I was there 2 weeks ago, similar thing happened. Watched a Winnebago get bogged trying to get in on the top road, luckily they were towing a small 4wd to un bog it, it did it easily, and one guy stepped out to his shins in water also. I was on higher ground and all good in comparison. Also if you have some levellers, there's even higher ground. I'm planning on being there for Easter, so I hope it's ok!! ;) also, if it is wet, you can get in and out by avoiding the tracks and slowly driving on the grass.

PS. I've got a 4wd, so if anyone gets stuck, there's a solution

I am not sure Vic, this particular rain band has been extraordinary. I have not been there in the wet before, only ever had sunshine. As for an alternative area, once again I think there would be others that have more knowledge of the area that may be able to answer that question.
There is a place called Lake Meran, just after Boort which would be about 1.5 hours or a bit less from Greens. That is a nice area, even the area around the lake at Boort looked nice but there would be a charge for that. Lake Meran does have an honesty system, so donation.
Sorry not much help Vic, but I am sure there will others who can give you the information required. Not sure what Ayson's Reserve would be like in the wet, I have never ventured there.

I can't see myself heading over that way with all the beautiful weather we've been having around Perth for awhile now, but a bit of rain would be good.

Some Perthites (related to the Hitites wink ) heading that way now intending to give Greens a visit, hope it improves for them and others a bit. smile

we r fine at greens lynnie had a good bog in the dark last night but b2 towed her out couple        ofothers have moved to higher ground but alls wellnorma Sandra and I have not moved stay dry and keep safe

Not really your fault Sharon . Just one of those things.

Hard to tell how much rain will fall or where the water will go a lot of the time.

just whack it down to experience and keep on truckin.

I swung a bit wide for the overhanging tree over the road and my Coach's back wheels slid side ways about 6 feet, So I left it there for the night, I cant see in the dark and I was close to the Caravan on the right, as well as Shekons MH,
I was still on the road and going slow, Another 15 feet forward and I was back on the solid rock surface again, Did I say it had been raining, Then it bucketted down all night,

I had no traction with my highway tyres, It was wheel spinning, Not Sinking, But the owner of the Coorop Shop and Servo came down and pulled us all out, Thank you Kind Sir, So drop in and shop at his store to return the favour, As he didnt charge any one for coming down and towing us all out,,

That ground was all under water the next morning, We were parked in an inland lake, Hahahaha, Thats all the lake side sites, Very Sloshy, In the middle, it is very solid on the crushed rock,
If your not 4X4 Stay off the grass if your heavy,
First time I have bogged my Coach, Lessons learned, It gets bogged very easy, Hahahahaha, Carry longer tow chains, Fix a Solid tow hook on the front of the Coach, And carry a Come along,

Couple of days of sunshine it all drys out again and you can drive every where, Walk on it first if your not sure,

No Ken, I was only there for a few hours doing a course at the crystal shop. I have to say though when I seen all that water and mud and slush and the crevices we created I did think of you and your time in a similar predicament last year.

Gary, the guys at the store are just lovely and work hard to make a dollar and are always so good to the GN's at Greens. As Brian has said also, if there please stop and spend a few dollars with them. They do make good coffee and hot chocolate.

Brian I stopped and dropped off 1/2 doz stubbies I had in the fridge to say thankyou. It was probably like taking coal to Newcastle but it was the thought. We were lucky to have great people around to help us out.
