Checked out the rust removal work, paid the man and set off from the Gold Coast. Again not used to the trip over the Gateway and the heavy traffic just to get there but kept on keeping on and eventually after a Maccas breakfast and an Aldi grocery shop I ended up at Laurie's place near Zillmere.
Had plenty to talk about and I had intended to leave early to get to the free camp at Beerwah but you can't let a plan stop you from enjoying company and a good meal so I slept in the bus outside in his quiet street. Never done that before but it was quite painless with no hassles.
Off early for my exciting day by driving to Caloundra and picking up the freezer, I bought a couple of those freezer bags already frozen to help with the changeover but it was already cold having been on power since the tests were done. Did another shop but this time for frozen meals etc.
Had planned a couple of meals that I had enjoyed in the past including marionated lamb shanks and pickled pork but I had forgotten that whilst Dennise is a wild life carer she also is a vegetarian so half of my planning fell into a heap. Not to worry the thought was there and frozen stuff can be eaten later.
I met up with Dennise at the appointed place just outside Gympie after an uneventful trip from Caloundra, lots of driving but on dual carriageways allowing all other vehicles to overtake. Followed her to the property where she has set up camp until her joeys are ready to be released, she currently has 3 the older 2 will be ready within a month and she hopes that the little one will be ready by winter.
This is a 55 acre property hilly and wooded with narrow hilly and twisty access and will be cut off if the heavy rains come. This time last year it was cut off for a week, I am set up high enough to avoid being swept away but possibly could be unable to get out. There is no internet or phone access this side of the mountain.
I will be able to post this when we go to Gympie in Dennise's car, her coaster is a beautiful example of the renovators art. Mine is great but nothing compared to hers, all new and well designed. It is a 1993 model with a Landcruiser 6 cyl turbo motor, airconditioned, automatic with power steering. Everything that mine lacks, no problems climbing hills for Dennise.
So here I am on a secluded property without internet or phone and with the possibility of being cut off physically as well. I don't let possibilities get in the way of an interesting life so have no idea when I will leave this paradise and great company but will get to Wuruma Dam eventually.
Went into Gympie today but ran out of battery power for the laptop so was unable to post. Found out that Hungry Jacks sell Vegetarian Burgers and that they are very tasty. Was wanting to find an OP Shop, the shoes I bought at the OP Shop at Rollingstone last August for $4 have finally broken beyond repair and have to be thrown out.
There is a massive Vinnies in Gympie but didn't have what I wanted and Dennise suggested Rivers and sure enough they, as usual, were having a SALE and these leather upper shoes were $15 and another 30% off for good measure. $10.50 later I walked out with the most comfortable new shoes, well worth the $6.50 more than the previous ones.
Renewed our acquaintance
with Mrs Brown's Boys and laughed our way through a couple of episodes. I know I said that I wouldn't be buying alcohol now that Christmas and the New Year have passed but I weakened and bought a bottle of Penfolds Club Reserve Classic Tawny Port cost more than the shoes but sure tastes better. John
Another great post and pictures John, you certainly are living the dream.
Whenever I feel I am getting too old for this caper I read your posts and view the pictures and feel inspired again.
Thanks for the very informative posts and great pic's, hope you don't get rained in! LOL.
PS: That is my favourite port (when I was drinking). I am a semi vege (I say that as I do eat fish, but no other meats) and have the Hungry Jacks vege burgers, sometimes the fish burgers from Macca's (not forgetting the free seniors coffees from both places). I think you spent one night sleeping outside our place on the verge in your old Hi Ace before taking off next morning from memory (after your return from Bali).

Rivers is a great place to buy clothing and shoes - there's one here in Taree - and always a sale on. Matter of fact, John, seeing you swanning around Greens in a flash button up shirt inspired me to shop for a couple of button ups at Rivers. Great post, as usual, and I love the pics.
I too bought myself a pair of joggers from Rivers today in Young. After having to throw my last pair in the bin after getting bogged in mud at Nerrandera boat ramp after the rains last week.
Tried to wash the mud off but there was more mud than shoe so gave up.
Great rundown of your travels John. See you at Wuruma Dam.
John,
One for you:
Mrs Brown's Boys Australian tour kicks off in Wollongong on February 26th 2014, and is followed by Sydney Newcastle & Canberra.
I understand that other states are still being sorted.
Thanks for the replies, commenting about the fridge freezer it has been checked out by 2 different companies who both said that there were no problems.
They both checked it out using 240 volts and I still have problems using 12 volts and I have come to the conclusion that it is not the thermostat but the thin wiring supplied because it started to cut off at around 30 degrees ambient not the nominated -12. I have just bought heavier wiring plus soldering equipment and heat shrink tubes. Where are Kevin, Darrell or Rod any one would do the job better than I can.
Am in Gympie again and grabbing some internet before returning to the farm.
Just a simple question .. How far from the batteries is the Fridge Freezer..?
I ask this due to it the size of the cable and distance from source to the fridge that is the issue..
Undersize cable will cause issues, but if you Don't take into account the distance between both can cause an issue as well..
-- in simple terms if they recommend cable X to do the job and the cable they supply is say 1m long.. then they are assuming the overall length is Short..
So distance is greater than they say, you need to increase the cable size by a larger factor..
That is one of the issue that I came across in the wiring of My Bus.. Most of the cable had been underestimated in size.. by a factor of 4...

John, Keith is temporarily a solo & has been for 2 weeks. He is all alone at Dickabram Bridge while I am stuck in Maroochydore spending lots of money making the medical fraternity wealthy having lots of tests. Hopefully I will know more tomorrow re my problem. Still not allowed to drive. Cheers Alice
Hi Steve, I had a bit of an incident while driving on the highway a couple of weeks ago. Started to feel funny so slowed down with the intention of pulling off the road when suddenly everything went black just like a mask had been put over my eyes. But I DIDN'T lose consciousness. I could still think & I didn't even stall the car. I wasn't about to pull over onto the verge then as I couldn't see how much verge there was & if there was a drop or a railing or what. So I just stopped. All cleared up within a very short time so tests I have been having are to try to work out what caused this blackout/greyout. So far we have found that my heart is working well, I have the brain of a much younger person (doctor's words), I do not have diabetes, my blood test showed all other levels are excellent, I do not have an aneurism of the aorta. etc. Only thing found so far is some narrowing of the carotid artery in my neck so I am waiting to see vascular surgeon. We were going to house sit next week but have cancelled that. I joined Keith at Dickabram Bridge yesterday but we may move to Cooroy. We have been here about 4 weeks & we must be getting low on drinking water. Hope your travels are going well. Cheers Alice
Sorry to hear of your troubles Alice and hope that all works out for you both.
The last time I had internet or phone access was last Tuesday and it is now Saturday and I have decided to leave here tomorrow Sunday and head for Gin Gin to Jack Mac's home. The fridge freezer has been the worst purchase since I started this travelling lifestyle and now won't start up. Have decided to move on and buy another one.
Had a good time here but the weather has been very hot and now that I have decided to go there has been a huge reduction in the temperature. The frozen food that I purchased to start off my new eating plan has been mostly eaten and stored in another freezer but the remainder can go in my fridge for the trip to Gin Gin. John
I know the feeling re the fridge John. Mines not working at all now. Will get it checked when I get to Stephens at Hervey Bay.
If it's not the thermostat I could be up for a new fridge too.
