Ready to hit the road again.

I have been staying with a very good friend who has just lost her husband for the past few days and will be hitting the road again at the weekend or early next week. It is amazing how much I am missing my new home. Miss Daisy has had new shoes put on and a good time at the day spa for motorhomes, I think she will be home today. I have loved being here with my friend, however the road is calling and I am ready to start exploring again. I am staying across the road from my house and as I look out of the window, I have no attachment to it at all, the tenants are looking after it well and my hope and wish is for them to eventually purchase it.

I guess what I am saying is that there are no regrets about going full time on the road as a grey nomad. I have had the best time and met so many wonderful people, all with a story to tell, and a laugh to be had.

I have decided that my next place of call will be Lake Ratzcastle near Goroke in Victoria. Only about a 2 hour drive from here so that is long enough for any self respecting GN to travel in one day. Will spend a few days there and then who knows from there where I will end up. Life is truly grand.

Have loved hearing about the shenanigans at Greens and hey never know where Miss Daisy will take me next. Have fun everyone, might as well while we are on the green side of the grass.

The past week or so has shown me once again how short life can be and we need to live each day with enthusiasm and joy.

Gday...

If Lake Ratzcastle has water and is half as good as when I was there last year you will enjoy the place.

Gets a bit busy late afternoon sometimes and of course on weekends as the locals bring the kids to play/canoe/swim in the Lake but there is plenty of space for everyone. I believe the solar showers are still working.

Here's a couple of photos to whet your appetite perhaps.

Cheers - John

Snow - books with pictures are out there Camps Australia Wide (current issue #7) has a photographic volume available - and a lot of people post photos of spots on the Free/Budget campspots on this forum. Read Yeoeleven's blog or Solo Steve's blog - both have beautiful photos of some amazing spots they have camped.

There is also a new book out by On The Road - it has photos as well!

Thanks John, I am looking forward to hanging out there for a few days. It has been cold and wet down this way so hopefully the water will be there.

Jules will let you know what it is like. I think it will be a rather peaceful place.

It looks lovely there.

I'm glad you're enjoying life on the road Shekon. Life is too short not to enjoy yourself.

Thanks for posting the terrific photos, John. And thanks for the thread, Shekon. Your posts are quite the inspiration to me as a soon-to-be nomad with all the usual doubts and fears.

Gday...

An excellent spot for a long stay (or even overnight).

Toilets, hot solar showers, tank water and water from lake to wash in. Shady trees, plenty of space around about one-third of the lake. Swimming, fishing, and NO jet-skis, speed boats or motorbikes.

Risking heresy here ... but I would much rather Lake Ratzcastle to Greens any day. However, very few (forum) GNs visit, which makes it such a peaceful place. Guess it won't get much write-up on the forum

Cheers - John

I had never heard of this one before but will go seek it out on my run around Victoria testing Zena out while she's under warranty.
Haven't got that far before and always wanted to.

Hi Marj, it is in the Nhill area.More towards Goroke though. The other place around there if you are interested is the Little Desert Lodge. Wow, it is beautiful. My BIL and SIL took me for a drive out there when I stayed with them a couple of weeks ago. All the years I have spent travelling to Nhill, and never got out there. Lovely spot. Went to Lake Hindmarsh, another nice spot but depends on rain fall as to how much water is in the Lake. Dimboola CP is a great setting on the River. Mt Arapiles, great to have a look around, however the camp ground even though it says for caravans and motorhomes, as far as we could see, there was only room for tents, of which there were heaps as they use as a base for rock climbing. it was a really lovely area to be around. Seen things and places I did not know were there, we use to go to Nhill see family and then head home again, so sightseeing was not on the agenda.
Certainly worth the time and effort to have a good look around the area.
