Longreach Waterhole

Longreach Waterhole

Left Winton and set off to drive the 176kms to Longreach on another hot windy day. Arriving mid day to the Longreach Waterhole Camps6 #355 offering a maximum of 4 days with good flushing toilets but no showers or potable water. It is a very open place to camp and can take the biggest rigs, round the edge and also plenty of room in the centre.

Was pleased to see Trevor and Jan come in later, we had spent time at Winton and it looked like the beginnings of another good camp stay. Jan moved stuff from the rear seat allowing me to come with them into Longreach to do bookings and collect my MP3 player from the post office. We booked to attend the Paddlewheeler cruise down the Thompson River including the entertainment and meals, we selected the afternoon one because of the good reports from other Grey Nomads. We were not disappointed.

We did a bulk deal and decided to do the Cobb and co Tour with entertainment and food on Thursday morning, another good mornings entertainment, with Trevor and myself sitting atop the coach getting covered in dust. We have planned to go fishing later today and I will set up and leave tomorrow Friday morning. So you can see that I have had a great time here in Longreach and am most impressed with the town its layout and facilities. We also visited The Stockmans Hall of Fame another must do whilst here, Trevor and Jan intend to do the Qantas flying thing tomorrow but I will give that a miss.
Will update  on the fishing results and any other exiting happening whilst here in Longreach    John

So glad you enjoyed the paddle steamer cruise and all the other stuff you did at Longreach - it is a great place - really enjoyed it, and the free camp!

I marvel at your stories John. Yet another day, another watering hole.
You are doing it all. Great stuff.

Kaid, next time that happens go into the extras through edit and delete the words and just write doubleup. That way you won't have a 4th as well.

Well as usual my fishing went unrewarded, the last fish that I caught and ate was in 2011 at Norman's Beach near Albany.

I need to set up a time with Bill12 about 2 years and I may know what to do in each different situation.

Glutton for punishment though I am camped on the banks of the Barcoo River at Isisford and it is perported to be the Yellow Belly capital of the state, will let you know later when I post about Isisford.

John, you have to 'whistle' the yellow bellies!!  Lived out there for a number of years and never could do it but apparently it's only the male species who can!

Longreach is one of our favourite towns. We were there exactly one year ago yesterday . The free camp is excellent and a credit to their town,we stayed 3 nights .met some terrific people too. Such a lot to see in Longreach .
If you are going that direction Blackall is an interesting town and a good camp right in town $5 night there but it's no good if it's raining ( would become a bog)
Have a great time and it sounds like you have also met some nice people.

Pam

thanks for all the comments and yes my next camp will be at Blackall but now and for the next week I will be at Isisford and the Oma Waterhole both covered in the one booking. More of that later when I have got my act together and prepared a post.

Cruising Cruze  with my fishing luck I would probably blow my hand off trying that technique.     John
