My water pump gives a quick "burrup"

My water pump has begun to give a quick "burrup" when the

taps are off but the power is on to the pump. This occurs about

every 4-5 minutes.

Water isn't leaking out of the system.

Water pressure is being lost. Water is leaking back through the pump diaphram either because there is something in there or it has a hole.
Do you have a filter before the pump?
Cheers,
Peter

If not an external leak it will be a valve inside the pump. If a new system could be a bit of plastic under valve, if older valve is worn.

Neither a difficult fix.

Look very closely for weeps or drips under the van, in all cupboards and tap connections. It only takes a slight weep to lose pump pressure momentarily.

Usual cause is John Guest connector or split in JG tubing.

Every 3-4 minutes indicates a weep.

You have a leak downstream of the pump. I had this exact problem for several years and could not find the leak, no matter how hard I tried. Only recently did I finally discover that it was a slow tap leak, but so slow that it took many hours for the drips to become apparent. If you can't find a leak, then replace the tap washers.

I'd agree with other comments that it's probably leaking somewhere in the water system. I had the same issue but the pump activated briefly only approx once every 30 mins. I had no noticeable water leaks, but I tightened every hose clamp & fitting where possible to do so and that fixed it. You could try plugging hoses in different parts of your water system to try to narrow down where the problem is.

Thanks Peter. I have inspected the system with the van over a concrete pad, and

have inspected all around the pump etc and can find no evidence of a leak.

I wound the (i think) diaphragm setting about half a turn anticlock and at the moment

seems to have fixed. I will do a test to see if I have lost pressure or volume significantly.

Thanks all. I have replied to Peter sine he was at the top and first seen.

If there's more to it than the adjustment that I have made its off to
the service department - since there's other work needed before the
safari for the season. Just another chore.

It's possible that the bypass adjustment may have solved the problem. i initially thought so in relation to my van. But I quickly became clear that it had only partially disguised it. I still suspect an ultra-slow tap leak if you can't find another one.

That screw is an output pressure adjustment. Reducing the pressure may reduce the leak through the diaphragm, or it may even stop, but it will not address the fundamental problem which is water going backwards through the pump reducing the upstream pressure which trips the pressure switch to start the pump.

If the problem goes away, fine, but it is likely to be temporary.

I asked if you had a filter before the pump. If NO, it may simply be a bit of crud which can be easily removed by cleaning the diaphragm. If the diaphragm has a pin prick hole in it, you can buy replacement diaphragms for some pumps.

Cheers,

Peter

Most pumps have an easy to remove head for such inspection/cleaning/replacement purposes, usually without needing to remove the pump body from its mount.

Good news in a way but still perplexing.

All throughout my searching for the cause of the problem, given that right from start and after digesting members'
postings and what I could glean from the web (mostly stuff from overseas and little or no help, and also
out of date) I read how to fill the HWS easily because it was standing empty awaiting a new anode.

Of course I did not ever open a tap set to hot because I knew that the hws was empty. All the searches that
I carried out was centered around the cold system. I was beginning to think that there must be a problem with
the pump diaphragm or whatever.

So with the new anode in place I decided to fill and test the hws. Hook up the hose to the pressure connection
for when on water supply, open the hws bleed valve/lever and wait for the hws to fill.

Nothing!!!

no water entering the hws tank at all.

So under the van - find the tap on the hws fill line (dunno why its there) and test to see if it was open.

Yep - full on - fiddle a bit ˝ a turn off back on and BINGO - tank filling.

AND NOW, NO BURRUPS every 1 ˝ minutes.

I'm perplexed !!!!!
