Caravan insurance

Just wondering what insurance company people are using for their caravan insurance. Our fridge boards blew in a storm and we were told by our insurance company that they are not covered. Any recommendations for reliable affordable insurance please.

I've always stuck with either NRMA or AAMI for all of our insurance policies. I've found most others have too many exclusions, or have a reputation of being difficult to deal with when a claim is made. I know a lot of insurance only covers policy holders if they are on a gazetted road, so technically if you park your car/caravan a few metres away from the edge of a road you may not be covered. It also means I wouldn't be covered driving on our rural property.

If you have a look at an independent customer review site (I would ignore Google reviews or AI responses) you can find some interesting comments about some insurance companies. It's worth actually reading some reviews to see how they treat their customers in the event of a claim. A percentage of the reviews are from people who are happy with the cost/experience in getting insurance, whereas I think it's more important to read about how the provider peforms when there is an actual claim on insurance.

I usually start with www.productreview.com.au/

There are a couple of specialist van insurers who seem well regarded - CIL and KT. KT has a tie-in with the CMCA. CIL got a bit pricey for me, so I switched to KT. I do not have any claims experience.

You have to decide what you want to insure. Normally, insurance is for theft, fire and accidents. Insurance will not cover "wear and tear".

You may be able to insure certain "components" in the caravan, as specified.

Think about car insurance. You will not be covered if your radiator packs up.

Happy travels

Re Awnings, Some Insurers in the past, I understand, only cover part of the cost of older awning replacement, (above a certian age) if hit by a falling tree branch etc, not sure if its the case of an accident and the whole side of the van is damaged including the awning. Would check the PDS if you have and older awning may help in making a decision.

Give CLUB 4X4 consideration. Look at the extra benefits, and the lay-up provisions
for when you'r "kept in"

For the tug also.

And consideration for multiple policies.

KT Insurance.  The insurer is Hollard Insurance Company for caravans and motorhomes.  I'm sure you know that KT Insurance is not the insurance underwriter and Hollard carries the risk.

KT recently switched from Hollard to QBE as the underwriter.  Didn't notice much difference at the last renewal.  KT has a tie-in with CMCA, which seems like a good recommendation.  CMCA members get a 5% discount.
