Vast sat meter not working

Hi all; Just a quick one.
We went over to Tryabunna ( Tasmania ) and have done for the last 10 odd years. I do not have a standard television antenna on my caravan as i have always had a Vast sat set up for around 13+  years now. But setting up @ Tryabunna and my meter ( i have a little Labgear SQ702 and has worked floorlessly over the years ) was not responding to the sattilite. Most frustrating to say the least. I know the general direction of the sattilite as i have set up countess time in the same area before and never had a problem.

On arriving back home last week and as i also have a sat dish on my roof of the man cave i also connected my meter to that dish and had the same responce as what i had in Tryabunna. Some thing has to be wrong. Connecting the dish from the mancave  back into my Vast receiver in the my caravan and all good, i had all of the channels and no problems. I tryed this a couple of time just to make certain that i indeed had a meter that refused to work.

I have since found out the parameters have changed ( as of 01-12-2025 ) for the vast television network and my meter has to be sent back to the manufactures for a firmware upgrade, i was told at no cost, just return postage.

So i would advise that anyone with one of these little Labgear SQ702 meters to do the same and sent your meter back to the place were it was purchased from or Labgear them self.

I would think that if the parameters have changed and you need to have a firmware upgrade on your finder that you would also need an update on your vast box. Have you noticed any recent upgrade on your box?

Hi corndoggy; While i have not seen any updates for the Vast receivers, they may have happened in the back ground. With my set up at home i also have a second sat dish on the roof of my mancave for and connect to this dish when we are at home. The sat receiver is left in stand by when at home so if there are up grades thay may happen while we were out of the caravan.

Anyone know what the new parameters are for vast system? I'm checking my meter now and looks like I'm picking up nothing. Meter is a Satking SK-3200. Was user error fault. Well just had another go and got it to find a satellite.

All is working fine including the vast box.

Hi Ineedabiggerboat; I too have a Alteck Vast receiver. If and when a up date is needed, Vast them self in incript the update as part of the transmitted signal the main reason why at home my receiver is connected to a dish on my mancave and left in stand by. Never had a problem.

AS for my Labgear SQ702 that is on its way to my supplyer for a firm ware upgrade. I do have a very good fta / sat meter that i use when i was installing antenna equipment, but it is kept at home when we travel. Not worth the chance of it getting damaged or stolen. The cost of replacing that meter , i would have to sell my first born!!

Apart from being a reasonable sat receiver, its the best thing to warn you that a storm is coming I.e. it loses signal
