Our first trip.

Hi all, we have started our first trip in our Winnebago leaving the Huon Valley in Tasmania and making our way up to Hervey Bay. There is just the two of us Lorri and John.

Day 1 driving from the valley to Burnie at a free camp where we spent the night before boarding the night ferry over.

Day2 Disembarked the ferry and drove to Bear gully campground another free spot. Nice place need to bring everything in and take out rubbish , no water but has long drop toilets. Downside is in the afternoons a million flies want to come inside. And a long corrugated road to get there. Spent two nights here.

Day 4 drove towards Yarram and was looking for a Woolies to get some supplies and pulled over into a double parking spot and there was a road sign that as we pulled along side caught the awning and cut along the length of it, so taping the holes and see how it goes.

Anyhow we camped at the RV rest stop at Yarram, nice enough place to stop at but nothing there. Also the noise from the cars going over strips on the road was pretty noisy, we wont stay there again. Left here and while driving John was a little to close to the road edge and some bushes that where close on the road scratched down the side of the Winnabago not deep ones.

Day 5 off to Lake Tyers  and had to find a dump spot  and water so ,found one and John had to back up to reach and I was directing him and backed him into the lower branches of a big tree, more scratches! Decided the travelling life might not be for us.

We will have to get a reversing camera put in which was the plan all along but we ran out of time before we left.

Got to Lake Tyers, yes another free spot at the Lake Tyers Tavern, great stop toilets hot water power. For 2 nights, but we ate each night at the tavern, not cheap meals or really a menu we would eat from but you don't abuse the hospitality being given the great spot to stay. Saw some camp and never go into the tavern.

Day 8 and heading to Boydtown for 2 nights so will update this post after.

cheers Lorri

An interesting and informative post Lorri Most of us tend to not look up enough. Keep at it, it's a long lesson.

Cheers

Chris.
