I have looked at a number of fridge/freezer for our trip. Engel is outside my budget, esp when future long haul holidays is unknown and dependent on mum's continued ability to travel. I am considering 60L Igloo fridge freezer allegedly has the same motor as Dometic fridge/freezers. The alternative is Dune 45L that has LG motor, and almost double the price. Anaconda claim it's on par with the Dometic, with the advantage of being able to take it into any anaconda store if their an issue and they will try to fix it on the spot or replace it.
The weight of both fridges similar, not sure if the additional size may be overkill as we will be staying in motels/cabins with cooktops? The finish may be better on Dune, but read LG motors are not so great??
Love to hear your views or experience with either brands
You can get an Engel 38lt, rotomoulded plastic, the grey one, for $799 normally $999 currently on special, at BCF, The plastic ones are just as good as the steel versions of Engel, I have been following this version for some time, and am just about ready to drop some cash on one as well, otherwise, am going for a Brass Monkey 30lt, around $400, from Jaycar, with 3 year warranty.
I have a 3 way portable which is 31lt's, and for 2 people it is well and truly large enough. This fridge is only used on gas for long term camping, as my battery would not last the time on 12 v, even with solar up my sleeve..
If you don't have a dual battery set up in your vehicle, you will have to get in the habit of disconnecting your fridge, each time you stop your car, other wise you will flatten you vehicle battery, but you can get a fridge switch fitted, that will auto do that for you each time you turn off the car.

If you have a look at www.productreview.com.au/ you can see other people's experiences with various camping fridges.
I' wouldn't be confident about Anoconda's helpfulness when returning faulty items. I returned a duffle bag (Anoconda's own brand) the next day because it had a very obvious manufacturing fault where the stitching had gone past the edge of the material, leaving a hole in one seam. I had the receipt and only wanted to exchange it, but the very young Manager had to be called over and he implied I'd done it myself. Ridiculous as well as highly offensive. I offered to take it further including a formal complaint about him and got my exchange. I know of several others who've had a similar experience at various Anoconda stores and we all have vowed never to go back.
