$400.00 Victorian permit.

According to Car Expert the Vic Gummint wants you to cough up huge bucks if you want to repair your ICE vehicle on your OWN property, additional information welcome.

Only the City of Casey at this stage, but other geen suburbs will jump on the bandwagon if it means they can ripoff local punters

There is so much rubbish in that article I think it should be ignored. The council appears to be making it more difficult for those who want to use their backyards for car repair businesses.

Example: permit needed if you want to "store more than two unregistered vehicles for up to 90 days, store long heavy vehicles". I would prefer that to be outlawed entirely if it was next to me. Storing collector cars inside a shed/garage would be an exception, and justify the permit requirement. Again ... more than two.

As for servicing, the restriction is where "the activity or use is detrimental to the amenity of the area in which the private land is located". Changing oil in a carport would hardly meet that definition, but having a vehicle on stands in the front yard while extensive (and perhaps noisy) repairs are done would.

I say bring it on.

The 5th paragraph tells readers of the 100s of new car deals available through their site and provides a link to browse them. Advertising.

If anyone has travelled overseas, where there is less control of businesses, one can often observe vehicle repairs and other business activities happening on footpaths and roadways just outside the business premises. Really nice, not.

Anyway, the Casey Council have responded to the over excited media story. Refer the link.
