G'day Adam, The Ssangyong is a great unit - Don't believe what the sales people claim, it cannot safely tow 3.5 tonne - a van of that ATM requires at least a Nissan Patrol, Chevy Silverado, or Large 4500 Ram. You could always go to a light truck such as Izusu or Iveco.

Personally I don't agree with Mission Impossible as far as salespeople go - for a car that "can tow 3,500kg" & having a 2.2L engine.
My questions to the salesman would be (a) How long is the warranty? (b) How long will the car last if I tow that sort of weight? (c) If I tow that sort of weight on a regular basis & the car breaks down due to mechanical issues (engine & transmission), will the repairs be covered by the warranty? Or will they deem that I have abused the car & therefore cancel any warranty? (d) What weight can I tow legally if I have a full fuel tank, two passengers, a roo bar, 350kg on the tow ball, some luggage, tools etc in the tub?
I would be looking at what you're planning on towing, where you intend going & looking at a more suitable vehicle - even a good second hand one. And don't be afraid of one with high kms on it. I bought my last Patrol that was 8 years old & had 271,000 kms on it. It gave me no trouble & had 500,000 kms on it when I sold it 7 years later. Those older slower revving 4.2L engines were often good for double that distance.

Thanks for the feedback guys.
What I towing is a horse float with living area and 3500kg gvm.
Will be doing SA into Vic and NSW for events so not towing constantly. Currently have a Disco 3 2.7tdv6 with 350k on it and was looking to update. Disco still drives perfectly (the paint has gone to ****e) just getting concerned about high kms.
Your vehicle weighs 2394kg so with the horse float weighing 3500kg you are well and truly overloaded, physics, the tail will wag the dog. as Possum says you need a much larger vehicle to SAFELY tow that load.
