I don't get it.

Yesterday I read that Private Richard Norden has been posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross for extreme valour in Vietnam in 1968. This 19yr old went way beyond the call of duty in the battle for Fire Support Base Coral, the details of which have been widely reported so no need to repeat them here.

1968?? and the award is given in 2024??? Why was he not presented with this whilst he was still alive to appreciate it?

"The Remembrance Day announcement came more than two years after the Defence Honours and Awards Appeals Tribunal recommended Private Norden receive the award for his bravery."

Another two years to make a decision??? This situation is a untenable, those lads put their lives at risk for us and it takes 56yrs for some recognition?. Absolute disgrace.

We will not see the likes of these lads again but, I for one, will always be grateful for their dedication to Australia and their commitment to the cause whether it be a just cause or not.

Hi Dorian, I have searched for the info but I can't find how the system works with regard to these recommended awards. I know that the King has to approve them.
