Changing front and side marker lights

Hello nomads,

I have started to change old front and side marker lights to LEDs on my 2003 Evernew. Have run into some issues:

1. 0n 4 side markers there are 2 brown wires, another side marker has only one brown wire and there is 3 brown wires on the bottom left hand marker. I am thinking the one brown wire is the end of the daisy chain. The front marker lights have 2 brown wires and one white wire (earth) within the light cover that is screwed into the cladding.

2. Have used a test light and none of the side markers work, however, when  I used the test light on the brown wire coming up from the floor at the front of the van with alligator clips connected to a battery, all lights work.

4.looks like I have a break somewhere between the front of the van and the back. Will the side cladding need to be removed to check the internal wire.

any help/suggestions would greatly be appreciated

cheers

Mick

Hello Mick;
In the past I have helped others with similar lighting problems; I have found that the return earth path has high resistance joint caused by use of steel screws that have become rusty, some van builders even use the cladding as a return path.
You could try using a long temporary earth lead connected to a good known earth connection to trouble shoot at each lamp; it appears your brown wires are the positive, simply use your test lamp connected to each positive at the lamp point and your temporary earth and see if your positive wires are OK; good luck
Joe
