Webasto Deisel Hetaer - On an Incline

Hi All,   We have a Webasto Diesel heater that came with our Campervan.

Best thing since sliced bread!

I noticed on my trip last week though, that the heat output seemed a bit lower than previously.

Or to put it another way, the van at night maintained 15C inside, whereas in the past 20C was easily possible.

It was cold outside (-2C)

 

But last trip I think I had the rear of the van a bit higher than usual.  I raise the back on ramps slightly to aid in draining the shower.  Only about 10 cms.

It got me thinking that maybe that was the cause of the lower heat output.

Any thoughts?

They are essentially unaffected by slope.

Ight be sooted up. Try adding 250ml of kero to the 5 litre tank and run hard for half an hour.

 Your suggestion is pretty good Greg but I think you would need to run the diesel heater much longer before the kero added diesel gets though the fuel line to the heater.

Have more of a chance with 1 hour running.

I think Greg is on the right track . The diesel is pumped in so a slight change in the angle of the van should not make any difference.

Hi ill add my 2 penneth on now,just based on my experience .We have had Webasto diesel heaters in both our caravans the last 6 yrs .In the fitting specs for the pump it says that this must be suspended underneath at a fairly critical angle,(it states the acceptable degrees)and also the pipework from tank to pump must go upwards (ours is in a loop) to above the tank level before going into the  pump.This evidently helps  the pump pressure and does  prevent bubbles forming in the pump and then in the pipework to the heater.Bubbles in the line will without doubt cause the heater to under perform as we have found on a couple of occasions.
Not saying thats your problem ,but of course not parking up fairly level will alter your initial pump angle.

The installation angles that are permitted with the Webasto heaters are very large, larger I suggest than anything you could sleep with.

Petrol Webastos are more particular than the diesel versions.
