Cricket

We can be sure that the results of the Australia v West Indies Test are hidden waaay down the back of tomorrow's newspapers after the amazing win by the Windies.

What will be the excuses, I wonder, or will the umpires be deemed to have failed in their duty?

Steve Smith should be retained as opening batsman to again show his true colours. Cheers

Maybe the "WOKE" captain is having second thoughts about declaring while still behind in the first innings.

Yep, their arrogance has come back to bite them on the bum! Maybe he should have WOKE up earlier? Cheers

Sure is a tough game when you don't have a chance to cheat.

All the cheating comments to one side, West Indies cricket will now hit a high due to this amazing and exciting win.
As for Pat Cummings' comments, he needs to to stripped of his Captaincy and the role should be given back to the
ONE AND ONLY .. the great.
Steve Smith.

Think I have gone off Cummins too.

More off the field than on it.

Sportspeople should just concentrate on their role and probably also be a role model IN THEIR SPORTS to kids.

The Windies now will be buzzing.

Hopefully more kids will now come out of the woodwork and a few much needed young batting stars may appear.

I love their attitude and think we should have more tours from them.

The septic tanks contributed a lot to the demise of W.I. cricket some time ago when they started raiding them for the tall guys for basketball.

I realise that the pink ball and the night conditions are critical in the night games.

Did wonder when watching it though that they didn't bat 11 in the first innings or throw the bat a bit earlier?

At least we are now rid of Warner and look forward to a few other ego's disappearing in time.

Smith is freakish, I think he could bat anywhere, the bloke must have an eye like a dead fish.

Hey Craig - went back and spaced all the lines for you !!!!!!

So being a sportsman no longer entitles him, or any other sportsman (or woman) to free speech???? I always thought that free speech was ingrained in the Australian psyche. Obviously not on this forum.

"Tell me Mr Cummins, what is your position on Cricket Australias latest announcement?"

"Sorry mate but I can't answer that because I am a sportsman"

Ridiculous? Sure is.

The West Indies only won because the ball they used was overweight (too heavy) I would have thought an Xspurt like you Yobbo would have picked up on that.

Fair call.

Though there is always a line between free speech and abject stupidity. The guy has a tough enough job without having to defend himself on his climate change and any other topics he wishes to elaborate on. When questioned by reporters either on topics other than his chosen sport, it is easy for someone to simply reply they want to concentrate on the job at hand and not sideline political issues. Next question please.

I am also a bit disappointed in Usman Khawaja. Sure he is entitled to his views and beliefs, but he led with his jaw a few weeks ago (not batting!!!), then wore an armband and it may be allegedly questionable that he was being wholly truthful when he explained the armband was for a "friend". Very rarely do we see only one player with a black armband, if a player loses a relative etc, then generally the whole team wears them? Questions there? We are all allowed free speech and our opinions, but we are not in the public eye and role models for many wide eyed young kids and one would think they have a significant responsibility to act wisely in all their actions and opinions.

Cummins runs the risk of motivating around 60% of no voters the wrong way with his comments, measured and sensible or not. Why make enemies? Emotions were running high in my region with a very high indigenous population, strangely enough, most elders locally were on the Mundine no side. It made life very difficult in our rural setting and the 26th January doesn't help matters much when it rolls around either. I choose not to attend those ceremony's any more as a result. It makes it REALLY difficult for us locals to interact with each other because we don't know where others stand on the issue. It is like walking on eggshells around here. The more fuel thrown on the fire by people in roles of responsibility doesn't help those of us on the ground trying to maintain our friendships any good at all.

So if free speech is ingrained in the Australian psyche then why is it the blunt views of Jacqui Lambie and Pauline Hansen and the likes get castigated just about every time they open their mouth? When in fact, they are not just passing the "pub test" in many instances but getting just about full support of the rank and file working class Aussies.

... but not at the ballot box.

I agree that the Australian cricket captain should probably keep his views to himself, unless the context allows him to express himself freely. For example, if he was being interviewed on Ahn's Brush With Fame, then he should be free to say what he thinks.

Perhaps the Australian Cricket Board in it's leadership role should be held to account. Allowing a smoking ceremony the day before the Australia Day match but!! no celebration of Australia Day allowed, FUGGING DISGUSTING.

Don't think there are many Kangaroos in Pakistan, but there could be a few Kangaroo courts.
