it seems most of the people preforming these WELCOME TO COUNTRY ceremonies are well fed and a few generation removed from the original inhabitants wearing designer label clothes in some cases, sounds like a good job if you qualify.

we use to throw green vegetation on the camp fire but that was to keep the flies/mossies away, so there could be be a practical use/meaning for a smoking ceremony.

Another gift from Kevin07. Perhaps we could have a reading of Australian law and how to abide by it along side the smoking ceremony.

How do you get permission for a fire in a total fire ban?

All this hoo-ha is propagated by feel-good whites and
FAUXboriginies.

Theres plenty of opportunity out there for those that want to improve their lifestyle
but unfortunately they are being encouraged by handouts from the feel-goodies
to stay where they are.

Just have a look at the majority of actors in the video - these fauxboriginies are
a real problem. They are the hangers-on and nothing like the real tribesmen.

Well stated, and spot on.

Limited opportunity for work and study in the remote areas, we pay them to live there, it is just too easy.
I think Tony Abbott was correct (on this topic) that we should be encouraging the aboriginal population to move to areas of greater opportunity to be able to build a proper independent life.
At least it would be a catalyst to stop the horrendous amounts of money being blown by all these "administrators". Billions of dollars gone in dubious ways and they are still living in dysfunctional third-world shanty towns.

if the work is so limited why do back packers have to work in rural areas to qualify for visa extensions, not that the work that is available is anything glamorous.

was having a discussion in an out back pub with young a aboriginal fellow an he stated that there was no work for him, i asked him how come the Asians, Africans, islanders, eastern Europeans and a few poms, most speaking limited english all seem to find jobs an do well for themselves when they come to this country and in most cases pay for the privilege to even get a visa.

i don't think he likes me very much.

Where a lot of the aboriginal communities are it is REMOTE, no commerce at all, no work for anyone, backpacker or not.

been to a few of them, some that i have seen bring people in to do minor handyman work because nobody seems to care enough to do it themselves and are quite happy to live like it.
if it was a white fella situation most of the residents would have moved some where else, maybe tony rabbit is on the right track and some of these remote communities are not substantiable without a lot of tax payer dollars as the money goes thru to many hands before it gets to were it is needed and there is never enough left.

Don't backpackers travel to the job from a lot further away? If you want work there is always work available.

I guess that it is food for thought, that the $$$$Billions of $$$$ is eventually recycled throughout the Australian economy.
But having said that, it is not the answer to the real problem.

I heard the Australian Cricket Board was all for the smoking ceremony the day before the match, but the next day (Australia Day) was NOT to be celebrated. WHY can't these people, ACB, Qantas etc just stay in their own lane and do their primary job?

Went to the cricket at Manuka Oval in Canberra recently.

When the MC asked all to stand for the WTC ceremony. I stayed seated.  Did stand for the two national anthems though.

WTC is a 1970's invention!

And a ridiculously stupid invention it is.  no

Personally (fortunately) I have not experienced that garbage yet however, If I do, I shall also not stand. And If I happen to be standing I shall turn my back.

I am told that you can thank Ernie Dingo for WtC. Apparently he was the first to coin that phrase.

I too do not need to be welcomed to my own country. There are those who "hedge their bets" by having two passports that's their perogative. I was always of a mind that if I was going to come here it had to be a complete break from the past. I have never regretted it.

Having said that there is always a little corner of my being that remains in the country of my birth.

I cannot think of anything more ridiculous than being welcomed to the country I was born in. Myself, like many mates turn the TV off for the duration at the start of footy games etc. It is a rort.

A local bloke charges about $200 to $300 for the provision of those services and I believe gets real dirty when he is handed a cheque.

Geez, Poor old Captain Cook didn't exactly get a Welcome to Country eh. Chopped of at the ankles. As if that wasn't bad enough Captured and cooked (no pun intended) in Hawaii. Anyhow, I guess it's only a matter of time before the low life's want his cottage in Melbourne demolished.

Don't think there is hardly a country in the world that hasn't been invaded at some point.
The way things are looking overseas, potentially Taiwan, Gaza, the Gulf, Ukraine etc, it doesn't look like the trend is going to ever end either.

Not condoning it, just a mere fact of life with we awful, greedy two legged creatures at the helm......

during the debate a whole lot of problems that were known, were mentioned that needed attention. to date have not heard of any action taking place to fix any of them. i would like to know how our tax dollars are being used? it goes for both sides of the political arena.

I will give you a tip, on the ABC this morning was a lawyer with what sounded like an American accent launching a second round of St_ _ _ _ generation compensation. This industry must be an absolute cash cow for some. One would think there would be good reason in this woke day and age for children to be removed from some environments. Just a merry-go-round of billions of dollars I guess.

That's a lotto win that one, allegedly don't care for your kids properly then cash out at the end.

It never ends does it?

I refuse to be welcomed to my area/country. I have an equal right to be where any of them are. I do realise some land has been given by the govt to them but I won't go there unless it's free for me also. Good for the goose, good for the gander as far as I'm concerned.
And this morning, Lidia Thorpe stands behind her uncle who is trying to claim a park somewhere in Melbourne that he wants given back to it's rightful owners, so he says. and I presume with compensation of millions. This is where the problems exist. Family etc using someone a bit higher up then them to get free media attention and hope it snowballs from there. Give us a break. Only got worse since a certain person in Australia "tried" to improve things only to make them worse
