Things must be a bit quiet out west and up north at the moment. Over the last few weeks I have been bombarded with emails and texts from the major providers offering cut price stays on locations that would normally be chokkers this time of the year.
I am heading out west and then up north in a few days time and was thinking that I would have to put up with the hordes but maybe not.
Is anyone who may be out west in NSW or north in Qld outback able to give a report.
Our recent trip southward from the Cape to Vic, via mid western Qld & western NSW was fairly 'quiet' traffic wise. The occasional CP's we stayed in were far from full. This was about 5 to 6 weeks ago.

Maybe because the CP's have got to dam greedy. Looking yesterday at a CP 40k west of Rockhampton $56 a night. Seriously. Most of the Rocky area the same

Flood damage?
My brother was out in the Simpson in early May and had to change his planned route due to tracks being closed and I saw yesterday that Lawn Hill is now shut for flood remediation works and won't open till next year at the earliest.
i think it would take a fair bit of adjusting leaving the life you had up there and returning to suburbia and routine Cuppa.
I know when I have spent considerable time in remote areas or overseas, I always find it difficult to get back into supposed normality and the day to day hack.
It seems to be a bit slower start this year....who knows why....alot of vans on the road now heading past Palmer River Roadhouse to Lakeland and beyond, but its happening.
I know as I live here and see the traffic .....just returned from my travels

After 5 years away I would have thought the same DMaxer, but we are not in suburbia as such (rural suburbia surrounded by 5 & 10 acre blocks) & no particular routine required. Essentially we are 'just in another place'. Quite different to previous returns from overseas travel when culture shock has, on occasions, been like hitting a brick wall.
The biggest differences this time around is that it is not warm, we have to accomodate more visits to & from others who we haven't seen for a long time, there is more traffic on the roads when we go out, but the main thing is the medical merry go round, catching up on tests/examinations etc which have been well overdue, & dealing with medical stuff which only made an appearance since leaving the north. Bursitis in both shoulders & 'frozen shoulder' on one side, in addition to Polyarthralgia of unknown cause for me & a cancer scare for MrsTea (which thankfully is all good).
The 'culture shock' was, I suppose mainly gradual, on the way down. Ballarat itself has however changed a lot, with many more houses & people, new roads & shopping centres. Probably the biggest single 'hit' was our first visit to the 'local' Woolies! Huge & way too much choice, unnecessary packaging etc dictated by the need to sell, rather than the need to supply.
We had done a pretty good job of 'leaving' & 'recommissioning' our accomodation was remarkably easy. Everything just worked with the exception of a couple of pedestal fans (blades UV affected & flew to bits within seconds of being switched on). The fridge door seal which had distorted with the door being left open had come good thanks to a friend who discovered it when we had the power switched back on prior to arriving home, he used some of my large clamps to keep the door closed, & getting the NBN reconnected was simple. Everything was just as we'd left it, remarkably dust free, no rodents, & just an influx of ladybugs on the bedroom carpet! Discovering stuff we'd forgotten we had was quite a pleasure.
Tv has again become part of our life, but it doesn't appear that we have missed much.
Access to my workshop & tools & being able to obtain stuff from shops when needed rather than online & waiting for delivery is a pleasant change. After 5 years & 5 wet seasons our car & Tvan need a bit of freshening up, which I am quite enjoying pottering away at (as the shoulders allow).
If all goes to plan we expect to head off again early 2024 in a new (to us) travelling rig. The sort of travel we have become accustomed to over the past few years is such that 'adaptation' has become the norm & here we are simply adapting (for a while) once again.
