Bad tasting and smelling water

Am amazed at the poor water quality some outback towns have. And some not so far away wera nice and sweet. Not usually a problem for me since I treat all water going into the tank with Hydrogen Peroxide. But I see and smell some others struggling with horrible water and having to buy water by the litre. Where are the worst? Where are the best? I intend to mark on my maps the consensus. Will be a great help for all?

Simple fact of life is large tracts of Australia rely on bore water, because of this we carry bottled water. South Australians generally buy water for drinking because the Murray has a high salinity count from Lake Victoria to the sea, other than the South East of SA the majority of the population get its water from the Murray River the futher north and west bore water is the norm.

The Great Artesian Basin and CSG GISERA

The basin covers 1.7 million square kilometers

Being raised on a "Bore property" I don't have any problems with bore water in Western NSW and Qld. There are some bores in SA that have a Sulphur taste.

All bore water is best left to "settle" for a while before drinking.

 Totally agree.

Many of us carry and use a filter to assist with water cleanliness (eg. a BEST filter).

We have a filter system I built it under the sink which is a water purifier and it is tapped to a stand alone outlet for drinking / cooking purposes only.

This enables me to fill the tanks etc at clean rivers and in some cases sus water supplies.

Has worked for us now for 10 years.

Other half has kidney issues. Water has to be filtered to the nth degree. Just easier to buy bottled water.

Watch your blood pressure or you will easily end up on dialysis. A lot of non city water will tip people over the edge with moderate health issue.

We filter our Sydney water with a 4 stage filter.

Unfortunately there are those pushing to get rid of bottled water! They obviously live in city houses!!!! I am getting better at refilling my water bottles when at a good source.... I'm trying :)

This probably will rock the boat and "No", on a public forum I probably will not elaborate. Bottled water has more TDSs (Total dissolved solids) than does city tap water. Cheers

Really, we are at the mercy of the water sources out there. For anything I might ingest (drinking or cooking water) I use a B.E.S.T. filter, and if the source is really suspect, I treat it with Condy's crystals to kill any remaining bacteria and to dissolve minerals solids, then boil it for a few minutes.
Potassium permanganate (condy's crystals) is a powerful oxidant and can be virtually odourless/tasteless when used properly. Also handy for treating cuts and disinfecting water tanks!
