Birdsville

Hello all. Is it true that the road from Winton to Bedourie then to Birdsville is now sealed? Also how far South of Birdsville is sealed please. Cheers. The Minnow.

I was under the impression that Bedourie was flooded. That was a few weeks ago, but it is raining out that way ATM. Better check with Roads Department or maybe ring the pub.

The tar is usually on the up side of hills to help traction in the sand.

At the current time the road (Birdsville Track) is unsealed from Birdsville to Marree, a distance of a bit over 600 kilometres.

The road surface varies due to weather, high traffic levels at race time, etc.

As at today, Mungerannie to Birdsville is open, no restrictions, drive to conditions, while Mungerannie to Marree is 4wd/heavy vehicles only.

The site, dit.gov.sa.au has a good SA outback road map and information.

South of Marree is now totally sealed, Oodnadatta Track is unsealed to Marla.
