Hi all. A fellow Avan traveller had gas struts in his cruiseliner front boot. I took the model part number but no one is able to interpret. G15-317-15.
Avan Spare Parts are not returning my calls.
Current non gas iding struts are 37cm long extended.
Can anyone give me an Nm rating for struts for this job?
Thanks
Be aware that most entries in Web Pages for Avan are Avan Dealers not their manufacturing plant, as such it is unlikely they could answer, nor even understand Nm figures. Alas you will have to actually order replacement struts at Avan or Caravan Parts Supplier.
P.S. I'm waiting for a pair of gas struts for by Land Rover to turn up. Seem to have about a 10 year life if used regularly, like our previous VW. The bonnet ones will now probably fail.

I copied the number into google, here are the hits. www.ebay.com.au/itm/173829350475%3D1&amdata=enc%3A1cdIQOM1CRSeNO72ELNafnA45&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=705-139619-5960-0&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=173829350475&targetid=1740279243329&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=1000652&poi=&campaignid=18277121424&mkgroupid=142426603833&rlsatarget=pla-1740279243329&abcId=9301724&merchantid=7364522&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIouOmovaH_wIVFUpgCh27vAA1EAQYBCABEgKHvvD_BwE www.ebay.com.au/itm/153920653284%3D1&amdata=enc%3A1BR2HBA62T6iVxxwIIpAO8A63&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=705-139619-5960-0&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=153920653284&targetid=1740279243329&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=1000652&poi=&campaignid=18277121424&mkgroupid=142426603833&rlsatarget=pla-1740279243329&abcId=9301724&merchantid=116510316&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIouOmovaH_wIVFUpgCh27vAA1EAQYASABEgJsafD_BwE
gas struts G15-317-15.
I have been trying for months to get new struts for the boot on my Windsor.
The biggest supplier on the web has advised they are on back order and scarce as the proverbial rocking horse you know what.
The boot struts final turned up at 10.30 this morning, 12 days after placing order.
Installed them I did need to use a ratchet strap to winch them in a bit, about 5m to 10mm to snap on the studs.
They do seem to be a bit over the Nm capacity as the boot raises a bit too keenly, more so on the upper half, more so than I can remember when we bought the car new a decade ago. But I have come across the issue on 505 vs 530Nm on the internet & the boot raising with enthusiasm on my model car.
The struts have no text inscribed on them in any form, nothing, so they must have come out the back door of a factory from who knows where. Visually they look the same externally.
So in 10 years (second round)... or less! I will know if these cheap struts are ok.
Beyond that I can't really make any worthwhile comments.

If you look in your local Yellow Pages, or Google. For A Hydraulic/gas piston repairer.
We have a good one in Rockhampton. They usually carry stock and regas/reseal yours. I've had both Regas and exchange/new/rebuild.,
At a MUCH better price than any dealers.
Try it.
I called a local mobile chap in Townsville to do my roof struts (pop-top). It was much cheaper than new ones, better for the environment too & I don't have to be Superman anymore!
