I've been to Exmouth only once, which was back in 1991.
I've circumnavigated Australia (by road) and I've visited 13 countries (lived and worked in a few) and, to this day, I still think the beach at Exmouth is the best I've ever seen.
While taking a dip in the crystal clear water, my ex wife and I spotted a shark. It was only about 1 metre long. Nonetheless, a shark is a shark so we quickly got out of the water.
A short while later, a couple of young men strolled into the ocean heading for a tinnie anchored in shallow water. We called out and told them we had spotted a shark. They told us nt to worry because it would have been a reef shark and therefore very unlikely to attack a human.
And, comparing 2 organised snorkeling trips, for me, Ningaloo Reef was much more visually spectacular than the Great Barrier Reef.
Anyway, I've just read a news article explaining that a total solar eclipse will be visible in Exmouth in April of this year and the town is expecting 40,000 visitors.
I'm sure that Exmouth has grown / expanded a lot since 1991 but still, 40,000 visitors sounds like a lot of extra people to accommodate and cope with.
We were their in 2018. There was only one space available to look at whale sharks, other half went. I repaired the roof rack drilling out & replacing a bolt.
One night we stayed in a motel, pretty ordinary as that was the only accommodation available, one night in a caravan park, one night out of town quite a distance in our own accommodation, back of car, best accommodation!

Exmouth is not a RV friendly town, "no camping here, no camping there", unless you want to be packed the CP at $65 per night.
Twiggy Forrest brought the Ningaloo Holiday Park and somehow managed to have the road moved from in front of the Park to behind, so he can build units on the beachfront.
Ningaloo Reef is so much closer to shore than the Great Barrier Reef, and very accessible.
Cape Range NP is a great place to stay, bookings essential, great beaches as well.
Lucky Bay in Esperance would be my vote for best beach.
