Red Dust Revival

Still cleaning up after spending a week in the bush just North of Kalgoorlie in the Western Australian Goldfields.

I was out there taking photographs at the Red Dust Revival, which is an event where pre 1940 cars and motorcycles roar around a dry lakebed.

Some people had "Show" cars that they didn't mind taking a beating on the track, others had vehicles that came straight from the farm.

One intriguing entry was a 1936 Rolls Royce where the owner taped up the headlights just in case they got damaged at $500 each.

Some entries came from the Eastern States and were towed across by trailer. I met people from South Australia and a guy who had come from Queensland via the Great Central Road.

Everybody who had a vehicle entered just wanted the chance to meet with likeminded people and hoon around a dry lakebed in the dust. The Hoon around are my words because it was a very well run and organised event but trying to curb the enthusiasm of the drivers must have been very difficult.

I have attached several photographs which I think show some of the diverse entries at this event. I still have hundreds of photographs to look at.

Hope you enjoy the photographs.

Brilliant! I just love the old front (Harbour Bridge) suspensions on some - Is that a Morris 6 following the blue roadster (slide 8)? It seems to be very similar to the early 50's classic.

Love the photos, the Ariel single is my favourite because as an ex owner I have a soft spot for them. I love to see old vehicles being used rather than wrapped in cotton wool as 'investments'

Mate of mine who has a collection of old cars, runs in this everytime it's on.
He and the car come out totally covered in red dirt but with a grin from ear to ear.

A lot of these vehicles would not have been fitted with an air filter when manufactured . I would hope these guys retro fit something for the event.
