What A Difference (Mk 11)


When I bought the Isuzu new in 2014 it came with Bridgestone Dueler A/T tyres on and so when I replaced them at 65K I replaced them with the same. Except for the feel of new tyres the ride was much the same, pretty firm. this is partly due to having an extra leaf fitted in the rear for towing etc,

I have now replaced the tyres with a further set of Bridgestone Duelers A/T but these ones are a slightly different tread and have higher load carrying walls. The mechanic told me to run about 36 all round and increase the rear to about 40 when towing.  

Well, you would not believe the improvement in the ride. Instead of a firm ride it now feels like there are coil springs all around the car. There is very little road noise (not that that bothers me), great road feel and really light on the steering compared to the previous tyres. 

I thought the previous tyres were very good but these are exceptional. With new foam in the caravan dining seat and new tyres on the car, how good is life!

Do you notice any extra fuel usage running at 35/40 now BigD?

I have same tyres as your original and run at 40 front and 45 at rear not towing as car is loaded all the time and 42 and 50 rear when the aluminium teepee is hooked up.

I haven't had them on long enough to check that out yet Doug. The difference in the ride is unbelievable. On the former set I would run 40 all round as I cart around a whole lot of junk in the tub and when towing I would increase the rear to 45. My van is 2.2 tonne and I appreciate your van is heavier so the increase in the tyre pressure you use.

One thing that the tyre dealer told me was that with towing on the old tyres I had and the increased weight on the back, the rear tyres would get a little bit of a bulge and that is why the increase to 45 was needed. He told me with these new ones, because the walls were stiffer and made for load bearing, it would not be necessary to increase the pressure significantly as there would not be any noticeable bulge. He suggested 40 in the rear when towing and told me to have a look and maybe that could be decreased to 37-38. 

He has a Dmax as well and uses it to tow a horse float or a big heavy boat and told me he has about 38 rear and 36 front and it is fine. He also previously had the same tyres as I had before and told me with the old ones he needed 40 front and 45 rear where now it is 36/38 a better ride and no bulge.

What model Dueler's did you fit? I looked up the site and found 2 or 3 different ones. The 697's have a good rep.
