The vinyl stone guard on the front of my van is starting to look a bit "how's your father" and I am about to give it a bit of a spruce up,
I have read that you can paint the vinyl with vinyl paint from the green shed and also was told that there is a product called Mother's something or other, Back to Black. I don't know which option to pursue so was wondering if any of you knowledgeable people have undertaken this task and whether you painted or used the vinyl restorer.
My stone guard is coloured grey but apparently the Back to Black is for all colours, it is just the name, or so I am told.
Hi Dmaxer I tried lots of different products in an effort to restore the vinyl stone guard on the front of our old Retreat before we sold it. I had some success using Lanoil but it was only short lived and had to be continually redone, the best result I had was with a product called 'Mr Black' which is a plastic/vinyl restorer I got from one of the car parts places (Pep Parts I think). If I remember it was on the expensive side around $40 for a bottle, you just put it on a cloth and wiped it on. I cant vouch for how long lasting it is as we sold the van a few weeks after I did it but it was still looking pretty good. I'm thinking like Lanoil you would probably have to keep doing it but maybe not quite as often.

If not, I used a simple cleaner from any supermarket called 'Jiff' on other vinyl not stone guard as I have chequer plate. To be honest though it was a generic flavor. Some on a microfiber cloth and wipe on, wipe off. Make sure you give a good rinse and do the Wipe on Wipe off thing again with clear water and microfiber cloth. If you don't rinse properly it will leave a powdery residue behind and there is nothing worse than having a powdery residue on your behind.

Hi Big Chief Doug. Not sorted as yet. I washed and polished the van and although the van came up well it did highlight how crappy the stone guard looks.
It is grey in colour and has signs of sun damage so even if I cleaned it thoroughly it would still look pretty ordinary. I will try your treatment and if it still looks that way I might paint it but a different colour.
I just did a Google search on painting vinyl. Plenty of information and hints on paint etc.
Probably easy to get grey paint near to the colour of your vinyl. If not exact, does it matter?
I recently painted my stone protection though it was not vinyl. Masking it up took longer than the painting the whole surface, and I stipled the paint on with a brush because the surface was rough and I did not want brush streaks.
