If you are travelling from south heading to Cooktown take the Palmerston highway have a look around Atherton tableland then take the Kennedy highway from Mareeba to mt molloy and to Cooktown via Palmer river road house , on the way back to cairns take the Rex highway you will be on the coastal view on you left side and great views of the coastline

Thanks Brickies. The last time I travelled the Rex Hwy was about 1978 and it was dirt.
We are travelling back down. We went up via the Palmerston. It's changed a bit too.
