2 weeks to get from Coffs to Eden

Where heading down the east coast in a caravan in October, we have about 2 weeks to get from Coffs to Eden. We would like some recommendations on some nice towns to stop at for 2 or 3 nights along the way to break the trip up. Has anybody got any good recommendations?

Personally I would travel inland and down, rather than coming down the coast. Country towns and villages have better cafe's are friendlier and some free-camping - Don't miss Jugiong andcertainly stop in at Bungendore on the way over to the coast, (showground camping).

Go the Coast ! Go the Coast! Go the Coast!

Why? Just so much to see.

If you decide to go the inland way as suggested by Possum, I highly recommend Jugiong Show Ground, it is wide open and heaps of room with a few taps of fresh water around but no hooking up to them allowed and a Dump point and rubbish bins just inside gate. I have stayed there many times and enjoyed very much. I usually plan my stay for the max 7 days allowed.

That said, it is now freeway all the way down M1 until you get south of Sydney, follow the signs to the Hume Hwy via M7 then hang a left and cut across to the coast via the B69 then just follow the A1. You could stay on the Hume and get off at the B73 then A1. Lovely drive all through there with a few bends and hills but I did it with a 20ft van so all good. I did it in reverse to above though.

There are some toll roads around Sydney if you stick to the Motorway and tunnel. I rather pay those to avoid hectic Sydney traffic. I'll do that anywhere really to avoid city traffic.

Edit.....Forgot to say that Jugiong is a Donation camp and the metal box is in the park path next to toilets out front.

Not our usual thing but we stayed at Wallaga Lake CP on a travel auction deal a few years back.
It made a great base to explore the Bermagui/upper Sth Coast area.
If you enjoy nature, Hobart Beach is a lovely NP campground with hot showers.

At Jugiong walk out the gate and across the road to the St George hotel for a good meal.

The Bungendore showgrounds are about 5 kilometres out of town. But it has water and power and a dump point. A disadvantage is that there is no TV reception - all you will get is pixelation. The Lake George hotel in town has very good meals and the dining room has a large open fireplace with sofa chairs is front to take the winter chills away.

A few doors away we had great toasted sandwiches at a cafe called 'The Gathering.'

Put it this way, if you drove straight through you could do it in say 15 hours with plenty of stops. Not a good idea.

If it was me Id probably head west Armidale, Tamworth, Hunter Valley, (miss Sydney unless you have reason to), back onto M1, M7, M5, Picton Road, Mount Ousley and down to Kiama, STH Durras (Murramarang Resort), Bermagui, Merimbula, Eden.

I can recommend Murramarang Resort (STH Durras) for a two or three day relaxation.

It is really how long is a piece of string, do you want to see inland, do you just want coastal, do you want free/cheap camping, etc, etc.

Very difficult to give you a perfect answer without knowing your wants.

You could even venture further down to Canberra and visit war memorial, museum, etc.

Good luck you have ample time to manage a great trip

Only issue I have with coastal roads is the hills and corners with a few pot holes just to add !! Some sea side towns are weekenders and dont have too many shops ? But its great if you dont like McDonalds etc . I find fuel consumption is higher ? Inland roads are more direct.

Highly recommend south west rocks trial bay gaol campground. Get a spot down the bottom near the beach. Awsome view and sunset. It is unpowered there but worth it
