I live in S.E.Qld. Every time that I go into town theres lots of vans camping or passing through. Yes there are potholes, always is, may be a few more. The country has never looked so good after the rain. Creeks and rivers are running and the dams are full. Everyone is grinning from ear to ear and happy to have a chat. That information in the last paragraph in your post is totally wrong.

Get travelling now and you wont regret it.

We didn't go anywhere for the first 2 years of Covid after travelling extensively for the 10 years previous.
This year we've started travelling again, doing a 3 week trip & now currently on a month long trip with a 2 month trip planned after the Winter period.
We bush camp mainly by ourselves, only coming in contact with other people at fuel outlets, small town supermarkets & gas refillers, masked up at all times.
Its great to be away once again after being in a self imposed lockdown getting our groceries left on our doorstep.
We can't gauge how other travellers are feeling because we don't go near them.
Previous to the pandemic we weren't CP stayers sitting around listening to happy hour stories.
So really nothing has really changed for us except that we never use public conveniences.

Jokes aside, my view is that the media has a sole purpose these days of creating doom and gloom.

It attracts viewers who are being conditioned to look for the worse of every situation.

The weather is just that, the weather.

No one can prevent or predict a loony lighting a fire, we all have to contend with that.

The roads are full of potholes in some areas of some states. That is mismanagement of our taxes that is being accepted by so many people these days.

In actual fact the real world is nothing like the antagonism and lack of respect that is on this forum at times.

The outside world is full of kind and wonderful Aussies who are out to enjoy their travelling, head off on your travels, sitting home is bad for your health unless of course, like some, you are forced to be in that situation.

It is hard to drive an armchair on a trip and get out and about.

I think some have never left Inner Melbourne

 We have a Melbourne base, 12 years of caravan travelling over 120,000kms all over Australia isn't a bad apprenticeship.

Plus three trips to Norfolk Is, a trip to Lord Howe Is, three flights to Cairns hiring an SUV, three flights to Darwin, spending many weeks in Kakadu plus a flight to Broome spending three weeks to travel thru to Darwin. Add a Tassie month long trip & that might scratch the surface of our travels.

Yes we do get out of inner Melbourne.

We don't spend much time sitting in armchairs, in fact we bushwalk at least 10kms every day.

Just go.Any time is a good time to travel. It's contagious. Get off Yass and head to Mt Isa. You'll love the Queensland outback and you'll meet lots of real people. Ivan may be able to offer ideas as I believe that he presently is in Central Queensland? Good luck, and enjoy your travels. Cheers

End of March we decided to take the van to The Rock (Uluru) from Adelaide, must have taken a wrong turn when we were leaving as a while later we were in Darwin. Did not want to return the same way we went so headed for Mt Isa then weather started to change, stayed a few extra days waiting for floods to recede but roads still OK after that. Just adjusted our plans to suit the weather / road conditions. No problems other than the van fridge dying in Tennant Creek and finding a nail in a tyre as we were about to leave Broken Hill on the last day.
Plenty of other travellers on the roads...

 To whom is this snivelling script directed? If it is directed at me you may like to know that I travel full time, and passed through that area not so long ago. If you wish to belittle those who simply offer assistance perhaps you could do what any sensible person would do, and call the local council offices, or perhaps the police? MSG a couple of weeks ago we did a road trip but only with a car - Lake Macquarie up the coast to Caboolture, Bundaburg, Agnes Water, inland to Bilolela, Roma, St George, Lightning Ridge, Dunedoo then the Golden Hwy back home.. Showers on the coast every day and it got heavier and more consistent the further we headed west a lot of the roads were slow in draining and were covered in puddles causing the car to aquaplane. The road surfaces seemed to be in reasonably good condition with only a couple of bad sections on the Castlereagh Hwy between Dirranbandi and Lightning Ridge which the tourist info centre in St George had warned us about.. I dont know what the road surfaces were like from Roma north towards Longreach as they had had even heavier rain than we got further south. Regardless of the conditions the majority of the traffic on the roads especially inland NSW and Qld seemed to be caravans, RVs and large trucks and the CPs in the places that we went looked to be reasonably well populated.

I forgot to add everywhere we went people seemed pretty friendly and happy to see tourists again spending money in their towns.

 You no doubt will have observed that all the OP sought help with was finding suitable camping sites, which is hardly likely to promote dissent.  Our forum is a more open, and genuine platform where members are free to offer their opinions on myriad topics, so naturally there are going to be disagreements. With many of our topics there is no right or wrong opinion so we end up with "he said, you said" situation which just goes on and on. With other topics, such as weights, there is no room for opinion. Your weights are either right, or they are wrong. Easy. Cheers

I'm seeing lots of green in photos of places that are usually brown. Seems like a good time to hit the road to me.
