Once on the brink of extinction, simply because they tasted good, the Bustard is still uncommon in most regions of Oz. Elusive, and shy bird usually. This one near Streaky Bay/SA a week ago, and was obliging to my camera for a short period.....'till the Bustard Buggered Off
Lovely images, we've seen them regularly at Mary Farms on the Atherton Tablelands when we fly up to Cairns. Fantastic birds.
I also fly to Cairns regularly, but have not seen these in the tablelands, only ever seen them in more remote arid inland regions. You're not confusing them with the Bush Stone Curlews are you ?

Mary Farms is probably the most reliable location in Australia to see Bustards.
We're Birdlife Australia members & regularly contribute to their Photographic Gallery.
We've been photographing Australian birds for 40 years.
Next time you're on the Tablelands check out that location, its extremely well known for that species.
