Road conditions

Just wondering what the roads are like Canberra to Dubbo, Lightning Ridge, St George, Roma then to Hervey Bay. Are there roads closed , damaged or flooded? Towing a caravan.

There are websites where you can get up to date info, you do not have to rely upon travellers advising on what the situation was when they travelled the route, some of that could be a few weeks old. For NSW look at - Welcome to Live Traffic NSW - For Qld, look at - Qld Traffic - These pages are updated within a few minutes of them being advised. Zoom in to the roads you are looking at so you can see where the roadworks are taking place and where roads are flooded or closed. If there are no serious roadworks taking place, the roads you are looking at are all two lane bitumen roads and will be in fair condition.

You can both review your intended routs ahead of time and also check in the morning before you start your travels.

Are there websites like these for all states and territories? Is like to bookmark them for future trips.

NT Roads Reporting - Road Map   -

SA  Traffic - Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure -

VicRoads - Road Closures & Traffic Alerts

WA - Main Roads Travel Map

Interstate Information - QLDTraffic  I should have done this one first

The RACQ Road Conditions website shows other states too. It also allows you to set a route and highlights road conditions, fuel prices, delays etc that you will encounter on the route selected. I'm not sure if that route can be saved and recalled or needs to be renewed at each viewing.

They will only give you an overall view. You can get a bit sick of clicking on the closures etc. as they can be inaccurate and quite out of date.

You will find most of these sites are updated within hours (although I suspect some may not be at the weekends.) If you see something in the NSW one that has not been updated for some time it generally is because nothing has changed within that period.

Thanks everyone for suggesting the apps.  We already had the apps on our devices but wanted to know first hand the condition of the roads. We also rang the information centres of some of the towns along the way and they were very helpful.
