Received a email today about me being hacked, had my email and a password that I have used. Was threatened with stuff and I had to deposit 400 bitcoins into an account. The date of the email is 31/3/2030 (today is 28/3/2022). I did some research and discovered that its a new scam. Link.
I like to keep them on the phone as long as possible & string them out. You are transferred to a higher level of management. I have even had them phone back as their own time limit cuts them off. Also had them using 4 letter words at me at my stupidity. Very satisfying to cost them money.

X2. Even ask them if they have family, wife etc, ask how the kids are, are they at school, what are they doing for Xmas. They eventually hang up but lost valuable time.
Hi rgren Perhaps they mistook you for a Saudi Prince or some ultra rich person ?? A compliment possibly !! Selling 400 Bitcoin you get US$18'697'840 at 28. March 2022 AM.
Perhaps they might catch more people if they asked for say $150.

X3, now I'm retired I have lots of spare time for a long winded chat to my new best buddy who kindly spent money ringing me from Nigeria. Who knew I had a long lost millionare uncle tragically killed in a car crash recently. I even managed to sob a little when he passed on the news.
There was no chatting, it was an email. The hackers even changed my bigpond password. Had to spend a considerable amount of time on the phone to get it sorted. Bigpond suspended my account because it had been compromised.
Had a call from a sub-continental person who was attempting to flog me fire extinguisher. The conversation went as follows,
Hello Mr ------ (my name, where did they get that from?)
"Do you have your home protected by a fire extinguisher?"
Now, having had a lot of contact with people from the sub-continent, I have a passable Indian way of speaking so replied thus,
"No I don't have one"
"Oh are you Indian sir?"
"Yes I am Indian" Pause.
" You are in Australia?"
" No, I am in Delhi" Long pause.
"But I called Australia"
"But I am in Delhi, so how can you have called Australia?"
"Oh I don't know what went wrong, very sorry to have taken up your time" "Thats ok mate, you have a nice day" spoken in broad Aussie. A few seconds silence before I hung up'.

Bit of a mistake there, was a bit kerfuffled, wanted US $400 in their bitcoin account. Spent a fair bit of time on the phone to Telstra. My email password had been changed. Lowlife, scumsucking, bottom feeder.
OK, Im out, you try to give a warning about a new scam and all you get is bull****. A quote with a current password was enough to make me do the research.
Another edit: I could not send or receive emails.
No wonder people on this forum go bush/offline, the negativity is oppressive.

Hi rgren
Thanks for the heads up on the scam. We all want to know how to avoid them. Possibly some here are so smart they can handle the callers with BS just like they write on here.
That is life I guess on a public forum.

I have been hit with this scam myself. I don't know how, but the mongrel sends me an email FROM MY OWN EMAIL ADDRESS! The usual things - threats to post up videos of me having sex with some frump. That would be a compliment at my age! All taken from the camera and microphone on my own computer - I have neither. Apparently is it easy to send an email using my own email address. I have NOT paid the mongrel any money and I certainly am not going to either.

Someone tried to use my Amazon account last night, they were in NSW and using a windows computer. I went to sleep in Qld and woke up in Qld, I also only use Apple gear. Probably wasnt me. Contacted Amazon and got it all sorted, new password and another layer of protection.

Welcome to the club. Every time I post something I just get ridiculed, abused and left with a feeling of WTF did I bother. IMHO many replies do not comply with the forum rules but admin doesnt seem to do anything about it. Thank you for your scam alert from someone who appreciates you taking the time to provide the warning. Cheers.

The date of the scam email was, or will be, 31/3/2030. Obviously it came from some time in the future when Bitcoin tanked.

That keeps it at the top of your email list.
Just received notification from Spotify that someone in the US logged into my account, checked the play list and it has music on it that I definitely dont listen to. Another password changed.
Some phone calls I can tell it's a scam call by the pause before they speak. With them I answer in Norwegian, refuse to use English.
If it's too late to use Norwegian and they ask me by name I answer that I'm the son and he has just died and other bulltish.
Next time I might say I'm his daughter and if they mention me sounding like a male I'll say I'm a trans woman.
Don't mess with us geriatrics.
I am getting a lot of scam text messages which I treat like all religious and political messages - delete without opening.
I like that one about speaking Norwegian. Maybe the next one I get I'll simply say "Je ne pas parley Anglaise - parley vou Francaise? and see what happens. (Please don't correct my French - I'm sure the person from the sub continent won't know the difference.)
I keep reiterating, this is an email scam. Nothing to do with phone calls. When they have your email address and password, you start to get worried. Phone calls were not my problem.
Hi I would be careful speaking with these scammers as they can record your voice and edit it to access and change all types of online accounts. A simple yes can be used for many things. Cheers Stewart
