Sorry but this is a bit long. Just read about water theft in the GN Times. A couple of years ago, during drought, I stayed behind the Bucca Q Pub for a few days. I was set up near the water tank. One morning an elderly couple with a huge van pulled in next to the tank. Started filling their tank until the pump cut out and the tank empty. They then proceeded to reverse to the tank next to the pub and finish filling their tanks. It was a hot day so I was relaxing in the shade. I never saw them or their friends go anywhere near the pub itself. They cooked their meals by their van and had a lovely camp fire at night. Then they took off early in the morning. Free camping, free water, no spend in the pub. I may be wrong and a bit picky but that is totally wrong to me. I am no saint but I paid my fees to the pub, bought a couple of beers and had a meal in the pub. I ended up staying for 10 days. As I said, I am no saint but my rant is over.
We had it happen here in Bundarra when we had Level 5 restrictions. They would go to the Emu camping area, just pull up and steal the water straight out of the tap, which was set up for campers, in the donation park, then leave. In the end, we put a sign up that water was to be boiled. That stopped them. But because of how much water was stole, we were forced onto level 6 early. Then we ran out for 3 months, all because of the greedy grey nomad. At the time before we went to level 6, each house was restricted to 50 litres a day. Now today it has a timer valve on it, and you can only get 20 litres out of it, then have to wait 20 minutes to get another 20, and so on.

They've known to steal water from Country Fire Authority tanks in Victoria's fire prone Mallee area.
Worst one we saw was a couple in a Bushtracker caravan at Spring Hills Rest Area on the Barrier Hwy west of Broken Hill.
The RA has a small concrete emergency water tank.
They did six full loads of washing using a residential sized washer outside their caravan.
They had washing strung up everywhere drying while they were filling their caravan tanks.
The Barrier Hwy passes through some extremely dry barren country.
Punish them in some way. A knife through the sidewall of two tyres perhaps and leave a note as to why? People such as these will never, ever change their behaviour unless the consequences for them are dire. And I'm just sick to death of such w@nkers and pussy footing around them. Behave badly? Expect to be treated badly.

I hope you left your name and contact details too.

I don't give a toss Peter - you may have sympathy for such people but I do not.
With this, Mike, I'm in agreement. In my opinion, these water thieves are on a similar level to the parasites that happily camp in country-hotel parking areas, use the toilets and showers, but sit in their van, drinking cups of tea and eating toast. This is not in the spirit of things, and could well be called "Un-Australian"? Cheers
Problem is YOU have no idea who they are or if they have permission, or not.
Nor is it your job to be the judge and the jury.
Your crime would be much more serious than theirs.
Cheers,
Peter

Bit stupid even for you Mike!
Mike, Never ever interfere with anyone's possessions. If I saw someone stealing water, I would confront them. If I saw someone causing criminal damage, I would confront them AND CALL THE COPS. notion under any circumstances
Wrong again.
Causing criminal damage is never on under any circumstances. You are showing your real self by your comments. Very poor form. If you damaged anything of mine, you would before the courts before your feet hit the ground.
A bit like the ones who rock up to a Donation camp. Stay 2 or 3 nights. New tug and 23' van. Usually the more expensive models. No donation and leave rubbish bags behind.
In our block of units there were renters who had a property on the Central Coast with water tanks. When they returned to that property the tanks were always empty. Their neighbours through the drought had a garden more green than could be displayed on a monitor.
I suggested that they put dye in the water. Water theft stopped.

You know what. If I caught someone stealing 25 ltrs from my front tap, (they obviously need it) I'd say drive the van down and hand them the hose. Cost, bugger all. But knocking it off from tanks in the bush, that's a whole new ball game.

Go and have a hot cup of tea and a nice lie down, you'll feel better then.
And in the meantime you can leave the difficult choices to the people prepared to be counted.
I sometimes wonder with some of the people on here if they'd be posting that we shouldn't do anything hasty after the Chinese had invaded. Too many wimps in this world.

Yep you got that right Peter
No point in lowering yourself to their level, thats "IF" they stole the water!!
You are no better than them if you go around slashing tyres
Ian

With all respect Mike, it is you thats out of line, with your original reply. Don't blame others for calling it out Your arrogance shows with your last line above, that explains it all! I guess I will be bombarded wth a response now Ian
Trying to belittle me wont work on this little black duck.
your proposed actions can only be described as that of a vigilante
Your comment is way out of line but you dont even realise it.
I always recall one chief magistrate who closed his comments by saying the laws are there to reflect community attitudes. Your views as expressed in n way reflect ANY community attitude.
I wonder how your backbone would cope when you are standing in the dock before a magistrate trying to explain why you decided to take the law into your hands because someone allegedly stole water (that didnt belong to you) but you thought the best thing to do was to inflict criminal damage his vehicle. Says a lot about you
PS, you have realised your mistake but will never admit to it because of your arrogance.
This is evident by your attempt to change the subject by deflecting to some weird unbelievable scenario about Chinese invasion
I have dealt with criminals for most of my life and they all have one thing in common, they all think that criminal behaviour is acceptable!
lets see how you try to squirm out of this. i assume you will only make some comment that digs your hole even deeper.

Although that might be tempting I think knocking on the hotel door when they start the washer would be a wiser option.
